Re: Musa Hajaray Hybrid

A good question indeed.
The exact reason why I would like to know, from Bikirochild, what the growthspeed of this hybrid is, in temperate climate. If it's close to Helens hybrid, that would be...

Re: My Winter Protection in Knoxville, TN. Warning! This is REAL Complicated!!

Looking kind of sculptural too, Bigdog.
I must admit, that's a quick and easy method.
I'm sure it works for you in knoxville, but here in Europe I geusse our winters are longer. Many people here...

Re: Time to put the bananas to sleep for the Winter

I did some insulating experiments myself in in the past. Insulation is great but one has to allow somekind of airmovement. Prone to rotting is the main problem. So always insulate and circulate,...

Re: Musa formosana= basjoo???

Hi Joachim,

I was wondering. If Formosana would be the same as Basjoo, could it then in fact be crosed with A, AB? Could it be done with itinerans?
For a fact it works with Sikkimensis; cfr....

Re: sikki ''Daj giant'' ?

Some will be more resistant than others.
This winter, I test(ed) my Helens in my greenhouse. They all took a couple of freezes from -4 to -5*C. All my citrus can take those temps, so... no big...

Re: sikki ''Daj giant'' ?

Hi Bigdog,

I was wondering the same thing you did. Does Sikkimensis make hybrids that easy? Fascinating question! More investigation is needed, surely!

Re: bananes flambées au rhum(in french for the title)

That's right, you have to heat it up first. If the alcoholcontent isn't high enough (ideal; 40%) it won't do the trick properly.
Still, always be carefull u don't end up with cuisine flambée... lol

Re: Are They Dead? I Need Help.

Mmm, nice info Sandy, thanks a bunch.
I notice when the plant has his emotional value, one becomes quite bond with it.
I understand cause I'm actually quite attached to some of my nanners myself, but...

Re: Are They Dead? I Need Help.

Like Erlend stated, I agree, it has probably put out its last leaf.
Try some other species; Cavendish sucks if you ask me! Lots of better ones out there!

Re: bananes flambées au rhum(in french for the title)

Yes, like listed above, but with pancakes and icecream, flambeés au 'Grand Marinier' instead of Rhum. Vraiment delicieux!

Re: most rare nanners

Rare species will hatch and grow in rather specific conditions.... so mostly thats why they are "rare" ;-(
Balbisiana on the other hand is easy; they do just fine at fluctuating temps (10 hours...

Re: M. itinerans var. xishuangbannaensis after a few hard frosts

If you want to exlude rootrot, then mix lots of sand and compost into the soil. Also plant your banana on 30 cm. higher groundlevel. They should be just fine in rainy UK.
For M. Itinerans, I've...

Re: Yellowing leaves

I agree with Inkcube; it's probably the combination of dry, unventilated air, wich makes it sensitive to mites. The light (fotons) gives the plant its energy. If your Ensete is in low...
