How wet is the soil? How often do you water? From what I can see it looks like its in a container, do you let it dry out out between waterings??

I agree, NEVER use mothballs in a garden as they are toxic. A small decorative fence would work great and look good, unless "said dog is a Great Dane" and could stepped right over a fence LOL

You need to give the plant more time to get itself established, there's a lot going on underground that you can't see, just leave it be for a while. A picture would help.

Depending how tall they are, I'd try wrapping the leaves, and staking it if possible.

I'd try wrapping the pots with heavy blankets and DON'T water, that will only freeze the roots. I'm sure other members will have more advice for you..

Ditto to what Sixtysix posted, that is exactly what I do with my Zebrina every year, I put her in front of my south facing window, just be very careful with the watering, I killed my first one years...
