Re: Monster Saba "Stump"
NeedForSeed: I just cut it off right at the top of the psuedostem and then let it go with no protection. These things are TOUGH.

Hard to tell. I just can't remember. I would highly recommend Green Earth for buying one of these. I am very happy with mine.

Monster Saba "Stump"
Because of cold weather a few days ago I had to cut down my favorite banana, a Musa Saba. I was surprised at how big the "stump" was after I removed the rest. Tha'ts the biggest I have ever seen...

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)
I just noticed a flag leaf on my big Saba. Never seen one of those bloom. Could be interesting!
It was maybe six inches when I planted it last Spring (2009). It grew to about 20 feet or so before...

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)
Ah yes. I have looked at that one before.
It is indeed massive and beautiful. But I have decided against it primarily because of three reasons:
(1) It would struggle at best in our climate. HUMID...

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)
June-Aug highs in the 90s lows in the 70s. Occasionally highs in the 100s lows in the 80s. Always very humid. The combination of excessive heat and humidity that we often get then is referred to by...

Re: Ice Cream Banana - No Pups....
I don't know...If you have a 6-7' Ice Cream Banana with no pups...I would be concerned as to whether or not it is actually an Ice Cream. The ones I've had always go CRAZY with pups, even at a small...

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)
1. Nothing really special...I just place an old blanket or comforter and/or bucket over them. For the bigger palms I wrap them with lights and then wrap them with an old comforter and tie it all off...

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)
Yes I am going to try FreezPruf. I think that was developed here in Alabama.
You know, established Royals can probably take occasional temps in the high 20s...but with severe leaf burn. I have seen...

Re: Welcome To My Tropics (Warning: Lots Of Pics)
Our average low extreme here is 38F in mid January. I live 18 miles north of the Florida panhandle and about 66 miles from the Gulf coast. Each year we see about 8 or less nights where temps fall...
