![]() I bought a 6" IC banana in the Spring that has grown to 6-7' but yet to produce pups. I'm starting to get nervous as my Bordeleons are producing a new pup every couple of days, or so it seems. I'm in NC so have 6-8 weeks before the 1st frost so hopefully have some time to get a pup to bring inside for the Winter.
Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Anything I can do to help expediate a pup or two? |

![]() I think it is normal. A lot of my plants did not put out pups last year. This year I have some that put out twelve some only two. Some plants pup more and at a younger than others.

![]() I got one from Sandy last fall that had been 7' and was cut to 2 1/2 foot for shipping. It started pupping about february at about 4' ( would this equal an 11 footer?) It has been putting them out like crazy ever since. I only kept one on which is now over 5' and the mother is up to almost 8'. Based on that I'm betting it starts pupping for you very soon.

![]() Earlier this year? Mine from sandy was about 10in when I left for vacation (had it for about a month and it was still 10in) and when I came back in 14 days it was like 2.5ft tall lol. Its just in a standard plastic 15gal container. The other one I have was cut down to about 15in and already had a pup on it. I took that one off.

![]() I have one that is getting large in it pot. Had it for a couple months and never puped yet. Not every plant is going to give off pups as much as the next. That doesn't mean its not the correct name on it. I have some basjoo that have tons of pups and others don't have any. All my plants are doing great also.

![]() Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it in the least! Mine is about 5' tall to the tips of the leaves and hasn't produced any pups while many other smaller plants have. If you can't overwinter plants outdoors in your area, just bring the large plant in. If it's too tall, you can always cut it back a few feet (won't kill it). At that height it is far from fruiting so you don't have to worry about cutting off a bloom or anything. Basically try to preserve as much of the mother plant as you can as it will benefit its growth in the future. I'm sure you'll get some pups in a while...till then, no worries!

![]() I planted 3 four footers last year. One of my IC's is 12 feet with five pups, one is eight feet with three pups and one is 7 feet with no pups. No two plants are the same! You cannot say something is wrong. Your plant sounds fine. Obviously, soil conditions, watering schedule and amount, fertilizing, amount of sulight and tempature all will affect the growth of plants. I planted 3 AeAe's at the same time and one is atleast 12 feet tall with four pups while the other two are 10 feet tall with no pups. The funny thing is the two smaller one were California grown and my bigger one with pups was from ebay out of Hilo Hawaii.
