Default Monster Saba "Stump"

Because of cold weather a few days ago I had to cut down my favorite banana, a Musa Saba. I was surprised at how big the "stump" was after I removed the rest. Tha'ts the biggest I have ever seen around here...

For comparison, here's a before pic...

DId you junk the p-stem already? Wondering if you measured just the p-stem . i am trying to get a realistic idea of height and girth of a fruiting saba in and around my zone. I dont pay much attention to data taken in more tropical environments.

NeedForSeed: I just cut it off right at the top of the psuedostem and then let it go with no protection. These things are TOUGH.

That's hilarious! I'll get some pictures on here at some point but I've not thought to measure them. It's possible I have some (two out of five Saba that are big) that are a bit bigger than that. No fruit this year though. They're all trimmed now. I trimmed all the bananas in one yard - about 200 plants - from the recent freeze. Started stinkin' already.

Why exactly did you have to cut all the leaves off the bananas?
