Blue Java bunch harvested today. Its not completely filled but I am running out of good weather and have five bunches hanging.

My VC is not a VC. I've got pink male flowers with retained bracts so probably a Raja Puri. Plus taking forever to fill like a RP vs. fast like a VC.

Dwarf banana trees with thick pstems do better than tall. My best plant for wind resistance hands down is my Florida Platinum (Raja Puri).

A little bit of wind protection goes a long ways too....

I'm far from the hurricane but I'm getting getting 20-30 mph gusts today. I"ve got three heavy (50 lbers) Blue Java bunches hanging and although propped, they are swinging around bigtime!

Are the banana fingers typically the same size as store bought Cavendish or 1/2 to 3/4 size like Namwa, Brazilian, etc.? Thanks.

My Namwa female flowers are always beige and these look pink/reddish. Looks more like Blue Java/Orinoco to me.

There are a many, many Goldfingers in circulation with the small fingers. The big fingers not so much. One is the real deal and the other is not.

For clarity, I was addressing a readily available source for course sand that I have used successfully for leafless pups and corms. I have not grown a Variegated Florida or a Variegated a'ea'a.

Dwarf Namwa or real deal FHIA-1 Goldfinger that has the big fingers. Dwarf Brazilian would be my third choice. Namwa and FHIA-1 have bigger bunches by weight than Dwarf Brazilian and shorter filling...

I have had good results using Quickcrete Sand from Lowes which is pretty cheap. Not sure about the grain size.
