Default bananas, beer, and coca cola for fertilizers

I have a book somewhere on making your own fertilizer. been giving my plants beer every now and again, plants in pots. been thinking a little sugar may work as well. the plants look good and with regular granular fertilizer seem to be thriving. anybody ever done this?

I prefer drinking the beer and about an hour later you can drain an excellent liquid fertilizer comparable to miracle grow. ... I'll bet your plant would like it better.

I guess I should have worded my question a little differently. anybody use 7up to make their Christmas trees last longer. sodas and the last little sip of beer to feed your plants. then I throw the can in the recycle bin or use it to kill vines.

thought i would bring up this old thread from 6 years ago. i have learned a number of things since;

cincinnana was spot on perfect in his post about the book, which i still have not found. thank you.

i decided to not fertilize my bananas to see what would happen. the school of hard nox is what happened. i was buying 2 bags of 10 10 10 a month for almost 70 mats. well, during the winter before i stopped we would get a frost it would take out the green leaves. frost again a week later most of the time. but during warm up my bananas would start back up again throwing out green leaves......... we had a very mild winter last year, not the first green leaf NONE , very few the winter before. i lost quite a few mats and losed/ thinned out quite a few more mats. i lost approximately 10 namwa mats, not all to non fertilization, i have 5 plants left in one remaining mat. but iknow quite a few were lost because i wasnt fertilizing ......... so with that fertilize, fertilize, fertilize if you want your plants to survive the winter for those of you that have to endure winters with frosts and freezes. gives your plants energy.
i have about 30 mats left

a couple of gentlemen talked about urinating on their plants.
well i read about a lady that collected urine from a local college, must have had a government grant, homogenizing the stuff, eeeeuuuu, and fertizing flowers with the stuff. she is getting good results. wondering if all the thc is helping?

now i have a gallon jug and funnel.
i start off with an inch or better of fish fertilizer, add a bit of dish soap,
then anything goes in it that is liquid. left over black coffee, juice from pineapple, left over tea, left over sodas and beer to name a few items. things that normally go down the sink. i can fill up a jug in 2 to 3 days. and yep.... pee, but not to much. then when the jug is almost full, easier to shake up, i dribble it around the plants.

fertilizer like everything else has gone up in price. for me losing a few plants was a good thing i guess. and i would like to say not all mats were lost to non fertilizing but other issues. like over mulching. a light rain will not get to the roots. heavy mulch stops it. or soaks it up. mulch lightly, leaves not chopped up are a no no my friends.

fertilize, fertilize, fertilize

What are your thoughts of adding extra compost?
I'm always topping off my mats but I also use water soluble fertilizer.

oh, i compost some it will let water go thru readily. great for the plant.

things like 2 inches of leaves or getting wood chips that takes a good rain to get thru. leaves soak up the water and then when the sun comes out they dry out. i have 1 species that will put out roots just below the mulch, have not got that identified yet. heavy mulch would be good if you can drag a hose to em and soak them real good parodically. me, i have them scattered all over the yard and irrigation helps but i would rather have rain.

we use to get heavy rains near everyday this part of florida, now we get a light rain once a week. i have had 3 rains in 3 weeks that don't even get the steps wet.

i just read if you boil eggs, into the jug, full of calcium.
water from pasta, into the jug. it didnt say if you use a touch of salt if it was a good idea.
steam vegetables; into the jug.

LOL!

The N-P-K of coffee grounds is 2.1-.06-.6. You will need about 48 lbs of coffee grounds to meet the N annual requirement and 250 lbs of coffee grounds to meet the K annual requirement. You own a Starbucks or something?

2-4 tablespoons of coffee! Just LOL!

but every little bit helps. lol

the cost of this for just my bananas that i have would bankrupt you and me. but if you have just one plant.....good alternative fertilizer.

good talking to you again my friend.

do any of you use CAT poop.

laugh its a natural fertilizer.

i know that dog poop is great for trees.

many people have indoor cats and so have litter boxes.

i have indoor cats and have used it sparingly with no observable effects.
you do not put it on fresh, put it in the sun and let it dry out!

Yikes, cat poop has a strong odor and the ammonia is gross.

Why not use fish fertilizer or soil additives? Are you looking to attract beneficial bugs to your soil?

buddy, some times you have to read the entire post not the last few posts..

the first half of this thread was created by a person mouth open and visions of 1300 different varieties of bananas.

the second half of this thread is a person with his mouth open and visions of 100 varieties of bananas.
.................

with that said; it is pretty hard to find an expert on growing anything, because all of us have different places, soils, enviroments, etc.
......................

now see on this place when i walk beside my house i do not have to worry about sticking my elbow out and scratching it on the people house next door.

i have had bbq's with a 150 lb whole hog in my hog cooker and 100 people on just one side of my house. or any side of my house. i know what yall are thinking, but those were the days of old. besides that all them yayhoos would trample my nanners.

anyways drying out kitty poop be no problememo.

but you can correct me if i am wrong but isnt the ammonia in the urine.
