Re: What are your 2 favorite Banana plants?

9A is in between 8B where my house is and 9B where our place on the coast is. I'm not sure that "cold hardy" should be that big of a concern for you. If/when it freezes, your bananas will suffer...

Re: What are your 2 favorite Banana plants?

I think they grow them (Basjoo) up north because that's all they *can* grow there banana-wise.

Joe Real's banana cold hardiness list:
•California Gold (most cold hardy)•Thousand Fingers•Monkey...

Re: What are your 2 favorite Banana plants?

My absolute best was Iholena Tigua from our place in 9B. Orange fleshed and sweet! Second place, dunno. Maybe like they say, the one you are eating. Dwarf Orinoco seems to be the most dependable for...

Re: What is the most cold hardy Dwarf?

Got anything to trade? I go to Sargent (Downey's Caney Creek Club) usually once a month. If you don't have a trade, I'd let you buy my dinner at Hartz Buffet in Clute. :)

Re: Is there any difference between a Kokopo and a Patupi?

Sadly I think I lost my Patupi between moving and the freeze. I was wondering if it was worth replacing. It never fruited for me 8A or 9B.

Re: Is there any difference between a Kokopo and a Patupi?

So, how is your Patupi doing? (I'm assuming that you are growing it in a pot since you are in 6A.) I had a Patupi in the ground in 9B and it didn't do much. Maybe it was a bad location, dunno.

Re: How about them Fe'i? Or Ty Taylor? :)

Mine were supposed to be Fe'i 'Aiuri' and I got them from Ty Taylor. I killed 'em. My fault, I think.

How about them Fe'i? Or Ty Taylor? :)

Out of those who got Fe'i from Ty Taylor, how many are still alive? Mine died (my own fault).

Anyone growing Fe'i from elsewhere?

They are supposed to be a tall banana and I have had bad luck...

Re: 2021 Texas artic blast!

Fellow Texan John Reno here. Well, how about a follow-up? Did everything survive and come up from the roots? I think everything that was alive before the frost made it for me. I need to revise my...

Re: Pisang Keling?

Do you really think it's Ha'A Ha'A? That was supposed to be extinct. If it is the real deal I'd *really* like to get it. I *love* the taste of Iholena's. So far I've had Iholena Tigua, which is doing...

Hello Basjoofriend! I have a German nephew that lives in Delmenhorst. According to the plant zone map he is in zone 9B. Can that be true? If so, he ought to be able to grow banana plants outdoors!...

Re: Now is the time to get the Kepler and Rust banana book!

I think the Kepler and Rust book is useful for anyone who wants to know about all kinds of bananas. It doesn't get into growing bananas in different zones, but then that is a matter of winter...
