Re: Musa basjoo

The plants in the conservatory don't look like Musa Basjoo in my opinion; Musa Basjoos usually have different looking petioles with "wings" on the side. Also, leaves and petioles are usually wider...

Re: look what we just pulled out of the greenhouse!

Nice specimen! :)

Looking at the leaf shape I am guessing it's got more balbisiana in it than acuminata.

Re: Metal Halide Grow Light

Trust me, it will work well. Interestingly, it works best if you limit the number of plants.

Re: Musa sikkimensis-the best banana for leaf hardiness?

This is interesting reading.

I live in Norway, and it seems Sikkimensis settle in the ground faster, and grow much better at cooler temperatures than Basjoo. But in terms of winter-hardiness basjoo...

Re: plese help me, what kind of banana tree I have

Hello;

Now I am unshure too, since Cavendish can also have black blotches.
The reason I think it may be balbisiana is because of the amount of wax and the leaf-shape, but it could also be some kind...

Re: plese help me, what kind of banana tree I have

Looks like Musa balbisiana, or that "unknown seeded variety" growing along the coast of the meditteranean countries.

It's most likely not a dwarf cavendish, as these usually have a red-brown colour...

Re: Making a greenhouse around bananas?

I have tried this with poor results;

It seems the temperature of the soil is much more important than temperature of the air. It's kind of like sunbathing on top of Mt. Everest. The sun is strong,...

Re: Banana seed not germinating in Ireland

If your temperature is constant, you'll germinate irish Leprechauns before any bananas!

Try changing temperatures, and they should be up soon.
