Banana seed not germinating in Ireland
I have seed under glass in a heated propagator for the last month and there is no sign of it germinating. It is a hardy variety. Any tips?

There are many factors that could slow germination. What variety do you have? Check the posts in germination, you'll get a lot of information there. But generally, one month is a short period for germination.

If your temperature is constant, you'll germinate irish Leprechauns before any bananas!
Try changing temperatures, and they should be up soon.

Yes, my experience is banana seeds are hard to germinate. Where other people have had luck germinating Musa veluntina from the same source (Randy) I've yet to have one sprout.

Try a heat mat. Really helps. $25. Keep it moist, not wet and warm. I also use a humidadome.

Like the others have said try varying the temperatures, that can kickstart them-so long as the seed is fresh.
What variety are you trying? |

I have read many views on using heat mats and such. One tells me to put it on a timer for 10 hours on, 14 hours off. Another says leave it on constantly...... any thoughts or input on maximizing germination rates using heat mats? Specifically, temps, duration, light exposure, etc. Thanks!!!
