Tampa Bay area: Can I buy your bananas?
Anyone in the Tampa area looking to sell their mature crop? I'd be potentially looking for multiple bunches at once, and price would vary depending on the variety and quality. PM me if you're...

Re: Does a dwarf goldfinger exists?
My father just bought a couple of plants from a local nursery labeled "Dwarf Goldfinger". I realize this doesn't necessarily mean anything, but I'm just saying.

Re: Pineapples....
Curious to know if anyone has found it to be true that suckers and/or slips mature and flower faster than the tops? I've heard properly planted suckers can bear fruit in as "little" as 18 months.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will continue to use this stuff, just maybe I'll wear shoes instead of flip flops, haha.

Horse Manure?
I'm seen a lot of arguments lately about using horse manure in edible gardens (or on your property at all.) Some people seem to think that the "deworming" medication is highly dangerous to humans and...

Re: Pineapples....
Lookin' good! I'm jealous of the size of your plants. I got my first one to flower this year, and expect several next year, after that I should be rolling in the things. I work at a grocery store and...

Re: New house, new chapter
Trebor,
Please be careful using pallets for BBQ chips, or raised beds (assuming it is an edible garden.) Some pallets may be treated with chemicals, or come in contact with other dangerous...

Should I cut the bunch?
I have two DCs with bunches hanging, both still green. The first bunch appeared in early August. Some of the fruits are starting to crack now, and temperatures here should be relatively cool for the...

Re: bagging your bananas
I tried it recently and I don't know what I did wrong but some of the bananas started turning black at the very tips. Seemed to be only where the bag was touching.

Re: Removing all leafs on plant that has fruit.
I'm just saying I think it would have been more helpful for you to say what you just said "leaves are not chopped off to promote fruit growth", and most likely would have taken the same amount of...

Re: White flies
I seem to have these on a few plants here in the Tampa area. They have not totally infested, but I'm going to have to hit them with something. I don't want them to multiply!

Re: Removing all leafs on plant that has fruit.
Well Mother Nature also would not cut the flower off after fruits have emerged, remove all the pups to thin the mat, prop up a heavy bunch of fruit so it doesn't bend the p-stem, put a plastic bag...

Re: Bunch covers
I currently am using an onion bag (woven plastic mesh) to keep critters off. I'll let you know if it works or not.

Re: Help with pineapple?
I've also read that if you are using the apple trick it helps to cover the whole plant over night with a plastic bag to keep the ethylene gas concentrated.

Re: Is this a pup?
Unfortunately I think you've just got a root there. The pups will start a bit deeper than that, be larger, and not resemble a root at all. Sorry :/

Re: Banana Information- Dwarf Cavendish
You can dig the babies out and replant them elsewhere, but leave the main plant where it is. There are plenty of posts here about how to remove a "sucker" or "pup" as most members call them....

Is the plant choking or something? My DC flowers are out and hanging down before the bracts start to open at all. Granted I'm in central Florida, but that just doesn't seem right to me. Congrats...

I hope so. I'm having a similar problem with a couple of dwarf cavendish plants (one has set fruit already, the other flowering.) I get myself all paranoid that they have sigatoka! I hope it's just...
