I am in 9a and have had DC for many years but they never do much in the ground. They struggled even on the best years. Don't waste your time, I just dug them up and making room for other stuff.

I bought one of these "Balbisiana" on a visit to "Going Bananas" and if my memory serves me right, Don said they are one in the same as Thai Black. I am in 9a and mine seems to do ok in the ground...

I still make the mistake sometimes of cutting too short, even after growing bananas for a few years, I still forget and cut too short and they die. I like about 24".
