It def looks like a musella lasiocarpa, maybe it is getting ready to flower?? Do they first send out a a small leaf like the flag leaves on musas before flowering?

Hi Jose, I do normally leave them in the ground and this is usually the week i cut them back to overwinter anyway, so I am figuring it may be futile to try to save them anyway....just to get that...

That works great down there but since I will def. have to cut them back in a few weeks due to freeze, i it worth letting them get torn to shreds and have to cut them after anyway????
