Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Roger that. I really like mine. I know Canada gets cold, but maybe you can make it work. It is one of the more cold tolerant, but like me, you’ll have to winterize it there for sure.

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Seems like frost cloth is better than other options, because the plants can still breathe, get light, and get water. Never used it before so I don’t know.

I’ve seen some guys completely wrap with...

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

I know the Basjoo would probably do fine in Zone 9 because their super cold tolerant. I don’t have any of that variety though.

I have Namwah and Brazilian which should tolerate pretty good, but I...

Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Just curious on the best way to save my p-stems for next spring. Wondering what materials everybody is using- who need to winterize. I’ve seen a lot of different ways, but I’m not sure what works the...

NPK ratio- Why nobody agrees on this?

When I search for a good banana fertilizer nobody agrees about the proper NPK ratio. I find this really odd. I want to try a pellet fertilizer for a while to see how I like it.

Why isn’t anybody...

Re: Looks like I may not receive my order from Florida Hill Nursery.

Both my Dwarf Namwah and Cavendish were labeled correctly. Not sure if they're dwarfs, but I'm sure of the variety, because I have two larger plants to compare to.

Re: Results from shading my Variegated Florida

I believe once the root system is more established and the plant becomes more mature they do handle fun sun better.

Many of the plants I’ve seen around town have pretty much outgrown/exhausted...

Re: Results from shading my Variegated Florida

People always say bananas need full sun. I’m a newbie here, but my observations of banana plants in my area receiving full sun is that the leaves are always folded down. This begs the question. If...

Re: Mom's 20+ Yr old Orinoco patches +12ft in 3 months!

I always wondered how people had plants that were killed to the ground and then in 3 months they’re 10’ tall.

I guess once established or if older plants with deep roots they just take off better...

Re: Snapped Banana Leaf

Bummer. Tough call. I’m too much of a perfectionist and would cut it off. Would make nice food for the plant.

I was watching a video tonight where the Orinoco out performed the Dwarf Namwah and...

Re: Liquid VS Slow Release Fertilizers

You can see the leaf that came out smaller and how green the new leaf is. The other plants were a lot worse.

Re: Liquid VS Slow Release Fertilizers

I think I may try some pelletized myself. I already messed up with the liquid. They are doing better now, but still very light green. Leaves are still coming out a bit to fast. The leaves were...
