Joy Care for red banana tree

Hello all,

I have just purchased a red banana tree and was wondering what the best course of action would be in terms of planting and care. I have had namwahs before; should I do anything different? Was planning on planting it in a mix of soil and sand and keeping the soil moist. I do live in an area that is both quite hot and sunny; should I worry about the young tree baking in the heat? It's about 3-4 feet tall currently.

Glad to be back!

Red Banana?!? I think that is a very common moniker for a number of plants. If one looks on the wiki, there are a lot of plants with red in the name. Maybe I am missing something, but I am not familiar with one particular Musa variety identified as such. I often see E. ventricosum 'Maurelii' in nurseries labeled as 'Red Banana'

A bit more clarity on the ID might help. Posting a pic is always better than not.

Where/how did you get it?

Are you putting it in the ground or in a container. Do you live in a mild climate zone or a colder one?

I am assuming, based on what you posted, it will be in all day sun? But maybe not, let us know.

The more information you can give us, the better the group will be able to help.

Cheers and good luck

I just got it from Home Depot, no species info
I currently have it in the ground (but it can be replanted) and it will spend its days in full SoCal sun (zone 10a - 10b).

It is in well-draining soil topped with mulch. Eventually, lantanas and star jasmine will cover the ground around it as well (if they grow out that far, there is about three feet in all directions in which there are no plants currently).
