Re: Blue Java x Namwah growth, first post.

I purchased my Blue Java from Going Bananas in Homestead, FL. It has produced fruit and I can verify that they sold me the real deal. I also grow namwas and there is a clear difference in color...

I live right on the border between 9b and 10a (2023 update to the USDA Zone maps) Here is my experience. If there are plenty of leaves on the plant, and if there isn't a bad freeze during the winter,...

Re: Which is the right banana?

I have read that Chiquita branded Bananas are all Grand Nains. That is why Grand Nain plants are sometimes called "Chiquita".

Re: Nurseries for banana trees Orlando to Homestead??

Actually Going Bananas has stopped doing mail order and they just sell in-person out of their nursery by appointment only. If you send them an email, you can arrange an appointment. As a matter of...

We live in Ormond Beach on the east coast of Florida in the path of hurricane Ian. Before I say anything else my thoughts and prayers go out to those on the west cost who lost everything during the...

Re: Taste review for Orinoco fruit!

You can use a photo editor (I use Photoshop Express) to reduce the size of the photo in pixels before posting. That way you will get the exact same image, but it will appear smaller in the post.

Re: It's happening!

I have completely given up on posting pictures using the banana.org gallery. Here is how I do it:

1. Save a photo on Dropbox (other file sharing sites will also work).
2. Copy the Dropbox link to...

Re: Do I need to brace this?

I wasn't able to pull up your photo, so I can't comment on your particular situation. However here is my experience: I have had several bananas with fruit that didn't look like they needed bracing...

Re: Dwarf Namwah Variegation or wishful thinking?

The pups on my Dwarf Namwah do the exact same thing. As the pups mature, the variegation becomes increasingly less pronounced with each new leaf until the mature leaves are completely green. At...

Re: Update on dwarf Cavendish I moved outside

I don't have any advice for your bananas, but I do have a suggestion for future posts. You might want to try reducing the size of a high-resolution image before posting. The large size of your...

I also live at the northern end of 9b in Florida. I have a Raja Puri, and a Kokopo. For these two bananas, if you can protect later-season in-ground sword suckers from the cold during the winter so...

Re: How do I expand my collection?

You might want to look into Raja Puri (somewhat cool tolerant and it cranks out fruit like clockwork) or Patupi a.k.a Kokopo (A short cycle banana with orange tinted fruit). Palm Coast is just up...

Re: Am I killing my first bananas?

Bananas typically don't look their best during winter. Also, don't expect much growth during the winter. I agree with Pitangadiego about bananas not needing fertilizer during the winter. As long as...

Re: Late Fall, Winter Temp Outlook for the US

If that prediction comes true, it might mean a fourth straight year without a freeze in Ormond Beach, FL (9b). That would be good because I have two bananas which recently fruited. Fingers crossed!
