I wouldn't cut the corm apart, just cut it down and scoop out part of the meristem to start the process. If you can add some bottom heat that will speed it up. You should see pup growth within...

and if you cant do that simply remove all the compost from the roots and repot in the same pots making sure they are upright. I do this every season as i always have a few in pots that seem to grow...

I make a "collar" out of cardboard that goes around the stem of the banana and covers the pot. This stops our cat from using them as a lavatory in the winter !

Using the terms Japanese fiber musa b, and that it originates from china and is frost tolerant to -20c definitely suggests they believe the seed to be musa basjoo.

The key to this for me is simply the temperature and 02 content of the water.
If the water temperature is at least temperate and the 02 level at near saturation then there should be no problem...

Cut all but two of the leaves off then cut the two you leave on in half. Pot them up, water, then keep them in the shade to reduce transpiration until they start to show signs of new growth.
