Definitely perennial for me here in zone 7, and I have them in a section of the yard that gets sun until around 3 PM. They are beautiful, aren't they? I'm a sucker for all kinds of lilies. Unfortunately, so are the rabbits. :-(

They are in a bed that has turned 'orange'. Blooming now are the remnants of orange hot pokers, tiger lilies, double tiger lilies, orange crocosmia and the blackberry lily. I'll see if I can get a pic to post. BTW, yours are gorgeous!

I don't know what color mine will be. Someone gave me the seeds in a trade from another forum. A whole lot of them. The seeds are very ornamental on the plants too, and look like blackberries. Do you collect seed from your plants? Great to hear they are perennial. I was told they would be here also, but wanted a second opinion. I just love the leaves. I'll be sure to post pics of my blooms next year... : ) |

I was over visiting a friend yesterday who has the most amazing garden. He lives in Washington, DC, and his backyard is a narrow steep hill. Yet in spite of this he has a beautiful garden. I took a few shots and they are in my Gallery labeled "Visit to John Boggan's Garden". Enjoy.

			 NEED SOME HELP

Here are 3 different hardy hibiscus plants blooming today in my yard. All are 'red', although A and C have more 'fuchsia'. None has an ID. Note the different petal arrangement. Flowers A and C both have petals that tend to be separately displayed, while B tends to have overlapping petals. The distinguishing characteristic is the color of the stigma....yellow in C, red in A. Can anyone help me in ID'ing these hardy hibiscus? C reminds me of Texas Star, but it has a huge flower, up to a foot wide. I appreciate any help here. (Note- if desired I can also post pics of the leaf for each.) Hibiscus A Hibiscus B Hibiscus C

Pretty little nodding flowers. They look shy, almost. Also, Portulaca. I love the stuff. It does not love my balcony, but at least it's still trying, unlike the sorry excuse for globe basil. Lemon-lime basil is also blooming, much to my dismay. All my efforts to keep it cut back (yum) just make it throw more flower heads. |
