Well, it definately has a long history in Order Zingiberales. Whether the Family Strelitziaceae is an ancestor of Family Musacaea or instead the Genus Ravenala and Musa developed independently from a 3rd ancestor seems to be a matter of debate.

The tulips that my wife ad I planted last fall are coming up and starting to bloom. These are the early bloomers of the first 750 bulbs that we planted. they cover a distance of 30' along the front sidewalk. In the foreground is the first of the 250 daffodils breaking ground.

thanks Richard the relationship to Musa was something i read so I'm by no means and expert.
i just thought it was a quirky looking plant that mite look really cool in my ever growing and water hungry garden lol i still have my side yard to do its a plot of land approx. 50X35 east facing not what i would ordinarily consider a good growing spot as the sun is blocked allot of the day it gets only 5hr odd sun a day so i thought this plant mite be good as it can grow in a variety of lighting conditions and also because its so protected maybe would be a good spot for some of those plants that mite be marginal for my zone 9 conditions its also the location of my new green house (yet to be built) i want a sorta low light condition as I'm planing on moving allot of my orchids in to this green house there is a Small strip on the north end that gets full sun all day approx. 10ftx35ft but as the after noon sun is akin to a oven here i have to be vary conscious of what i put in to that spot i also want to add a water feature although i have nun now iv raised koi off and on for most of my 45 years water features can be tricky here they need allot of shade and extra aeration and have to be exceptionaly deep for an ornamental pond (sun) i want the water to sorta rap around the base of the green house that way when i opine the vents some of the humidity will get sucked up and in to the green house any way I'm sorta rambling now but that was the basis for the contemplation of the Travelers palm

Damaclese, it's such a wild looking plant that if you have room for it and think it might survive, definately GO FOR IT !

Not much in bloom yet, but here is my Purple Stokesia (Stokes Aster)
Just re-potted my Jade vine and several bananas. Have about 10 more bananas enroute ans some waiting for me to get to Las Vegas.
Hope you have lots of space Pauly!!! And definitely agree with you on getting the Travelers Palm. It might offer some respite from the sun/wind for the bananas.
