And the winner is ... Watsonia! Towering 5.5 feet high, just a foot short of the young White Sapote tree in the center of the planter. The sea of red flowers in the center are Scarlet Flax (Linum rubrum) with a few purple Ixia here and there. The other bulbs in this bed are about done blooming for the year.

I planted these bulbs a year ago november and had a few blooms the following spring, but then this year the daffodils and everybody else joyfully exploded with blossoms. I think next year I will be in the business of dividing bulbs.
Mskitty, you said "loverly" ... a word that always reminds me of the song from My Fair Lady. ![]() |

The Aeoniums are blooming! The Aeoniums are blooming!
So are my Irises, Tree Aloes, Red-Hot-Pokers, Periwinkles, Lantanas, and my lawnful of invading St. John's Wort and Andean Blue Clover. (Time to borrow a goat again.) And my fig tree - yay! My Cannas seem to never stop blooming (red ones), and the same for my Callas (white ones) I've also got African Daisies going gangbusters. Too bad the season has ended for my Epidendrums. My palm's not blooming yet, but in the next couple of weeks it should. can i get a ?![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Richard - those Watsonias are just gorgeous, especially with the flax.
I don't have so much in flower at present - heliconias, a load of torch ginger, red ginger, phalanopsis, dendrobiums and the local wild orchids are coming into flower, and of course russelia equisetiformis which never stops. I also have a gorgeous purple-leaved begonia with scented pink flowers - similar size to a rex but without variegation. No pictures I'm afraid as Mr Cassie has taken the camera with him to Antigua for Antigua Sailing Week. Lorax - I had to google aeoniums but now I know what they are - I love them - we had some gorgeous dark purple/red ones in Spain years ago. Cassie |

Oh - and a small palm that I am trying to identify - could be phoenix roebelenii - small palm 5ft, soft fronds, wicked spines.
