Re: Red Lady Papaya
May I ask what kind of fertilizer you use for papaya? Did read somewhere that people use something high in P when planting out the seedlings. And of course high N as well. So I am wondering if the fruit fuel would be a good choice.

I like to use a blend of all different types also!
Azomite, fish emulation, I compost leaves vegetable scraps. But I also collect and use Cow manure!

Re: Red Lady Papaya
Thanks guys, I got it. I have also plenty of horse and chicken manure available, so my seedlings should be happy with all your suggestions in addition. |

Re: Red Lady Papaya
I am wondering what size pot you grow that in? I'm trying to grow one in a container myself and wondering if it needs a bigger size. This one is about five gallons I have it in now

Re: Red Lady Papaya
Yes larger the better . I have had Papaya in 5 gal in the past to grow and resell . Mine would always get to about 6 7 feet and put out a few fruits that were small. I fertilized them and had good luck selling them because people could see my others in the ground.
But I think 25 is just about the best to start with . As always bigger is better. But we all cant have those large pots ...

Re: Red Lady Papaya
Last years fruit were as big as small pumkins, so not full sun and enduring sun limited output, but I'm glad its healthy.. :^)

Re: Red Lady Papaya
I have checked with a few local nurseries; they were a bit stingy with the larger ones but were kind enough to give me some of the starter/gallon pots.

Re: Red Lady Papaya
Thanks for the recommendation; unfortunately as I live on a non-US island I do not come under the umbrella scope of places Craigslist can ship to
