I have expanded my "elephant ear" collection quite a bit this year. The only plants I did not get pictures of was my Alocasia 'Sting Ray' and an unknown one that I will post in a seperate post. Please excuse the weeds, because I am actually moving to another house and haven't been serious on taken down the weeds.

NICE! I got some upright ee's that been in the ground over a month, and just started sprouting last week. Do they grow quicker than naners or about the same?

Jake, looking great!!! The one you are calling DiamondBack, could it be 'Diamond Head'??? If so, I have several and they have overwintered outdoors as far north as DC, from my understanding! I have yet to try them outdoors but will this year...
The other one I wondered about is the one you have listed as 'Tiger Stripe'. I have never heard of that one. Looks alot like my 'Chicago Harlequin' and is a great one for your collection. My 'CH' grew to about 7' tall last summer and was amazing... They have overwintered in my area too, so should be another winner for you!!! Great job and keep up the amazing work!!!

Mine just now are starting to really grow, but I ahd one before while in Florida and it grew about as fast as the bananas did.

It is good to hear that the 'Diamond Head' variety seems to be very hardy. I did mean 'Diamond Head', I got it confused because prior to loading these I was looking at a roller coaster called Diamondback at Kings Island in Cincy. Haha. As for 'Tiger Stripe' it seems to be different from 'Chicago Harlequin'. Both Plant Delights and Brian's Botanicals have them. Maybe they are related?

I think you will have no problem over wintering 'Pink China'. You should also try 'Black Pearl' which is rated down to zone 6 and possibly colder. It has grown a lot faster than 'Pink China' and started growing about a month sooner as well.

Nice collection! Is Pink China hardy for you without protection? I always wanted to try elephant ears in the ground here, but cannas do not come up for me (some will come up for other people) so I doubt most elephant ears would come up either, but I heard that pink china is one of the most cold hardy.
All your elephant ears are so nice and healthy!

You need to try both 'Pink China' and 'Black Pearl'. Both this past winter survived with just less than an inch of mulch covering them. We got down to 1f and had snow and rain and temps below freezing for a week or so at a time. I haven't had any luck with Canna's surviving here either, but these EE's do.

I don't mind. I happened to be in a Big Lots last fall and saw it. It was for indoors and was on sale there for $30. It had been a lot more, more then I ever would have paid. I'm not sure what it is made out of, but it isn't metal, plastic or ceramic. It is hard, so I'm not sure what it is exactly.

Great collection of EEs! I just started expanding my collection this year as well. Prior, I only had Gigantias, but this year, added Pink China, Nancyana, Boa (so cool), Mojito, Calidora, Frydek (WAY cool), Blue Hawaii, and one other whose name escapes me right now. I live in Zone 6 and have never tried overwintering any of them. Would covering them with a few inches of straw work and, if so, would that need a tarp over it or something?

By the way, I get a season pass each year to Kings Island. You would LOVE the Diamondback ... smooth as glass and way fast. Until its installation, their "claim to fame" coaster had always been The Beast ... and it IS that! Two others I love are Flight of Fear (all-indoor coaster with "jettison launch" with entire ride in almost complete darkness) and Firehawk (lays you on your back to go up the main hill, then flips you over and lets you really get a feel for what it must be like to fly like a bird).

Annie, I have been to Kings Island every since 2002. I love it. I even visited the year Diamondback opened. I wanna get up there and ride Windseeker. I too love Flight of Fear. There is just something about it I have always loved. I do miss Paramount owning the park though and feel like Cedar Fair which own Cedar Point is trying to turn it into a mini-Point. Lol. Whichi is fine if we get some of those big coasters.

As for the EE's I am going to say that 'Pink China' would be fine, just mulch it. Any of the others I have no clue. I always say take a pup or runner and then mulch the rest and see if they return. The lsited hardiness zones can always be a little to warm and they may be able to take colder.

Super!!! Stunning collection of colocasias...or EEs. I surprised that you are growing them in zone 6. The first pic on your post does not look like nancy's rivenge to me. I have the similar looking one it's an edible type. I do not know it's the same. I do not have nancyana (nancy's rivenge).
I am addicted to aroids. I have good collection of aroids. Many of them are Caladiums. I will post the pics soon. I am in the process of expanding and organizing my Aroid collection. I wanted to collect different types of colocasias like you have. I think I have Xanthosoma sagittifolium or some thing look like it. It's edible. I also have Alocasia 'Odora. I do not have any other one's you have. Thanks for posting the pics and names.
I lost six of my aroids including black magic and 'Illustris'. They never come back after the winter. I am not sure it is killed by the forst or worms. I try to keep them in pots except the edible ones. Good thing about container gardening is portability but the bad thing is that the leaves and plants do not get bigger in smaller pots. I like to move them around. 'Lime Aide' is one of my favorites one. It's in my wanted list. It’s look like your lime aide is loosing its variegation. I think some one already posted about this limeaide problem.

Unfortunately for me and the plant, my Pink China did not return this year, despite a layer of mulch and a nearby weigelia shrub to provide wind cover. I was looking forward to a nice size clump this year like yours!
I am also regretting not getting a Blue Hawaii; it's beautiful!

'Black Pearl' and 'Pink China' I don't really do anything. I have also had the regular green kind survive here in Kentucky with just mulch. The others I plan on taking some in this winter of each and leaving some out with mulch. In the past I have had success with just leavig elephnat ear plnats in my garage in dirt all winter.
