Wink Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...

I tried one of the berries today, and I'm still alive!

I was surprised at how sweet it was!

Way too cool that you can eat them!

I have to have quite a few bushes full of berries before I can make jam though Sherry!

We did have our first frost last night so I will be cutting rose hips today! You never have as much as you thought you would have by the time your fruit cooks down.

My sister and I gathered what we thought was a TON of wild muscadine grapes a couple of years ago to make some jelly. And the amount of sugar you have to have - WOW! But it was the best grape jelly I have ever eaten, and the most beautiful brilliant purple color I have ever seen. The kitchen smelled heavenly. I think we each got maybe 8 of the small jars of jelly out of it.

Anyway, knowing how many grapes we had then I can imagine how many beautyberries it would take!

Cool post, Janan! That grape jelly sounds totally delicious and I'm even more fascinated now that you've mentioned the color!

My mouth is totally watering for some of that spread on some toast!

Yes, I think if I have lots of extra gardening space someday, I might like to grow a half dozen shrubs, so I can make some Beautyberry jam.

In the meantime though, I've been gobbling a few berries here and there...a couple more today. Even got my mom to try a few. She joked and said she better not be on the toilet all night!!!

Zac (ShearMe) sent me some of his homemade Loquat jam...and it wasn't half bad either.

Thanks Zac....and that mint-chocolate tea you sent is just simply delicious!!!

It's no secret that I am obsessed with my shrubs and take shots of them every chance I get, and today was just another one of those times!

If you're thinking to yourself "Good Lord, I hope she's not gonna post anymore shots of those shrubs we've seen a hundred times", then watch on because yes, here they are again today!

And yup, there'll no doubt be more shots soon...

Ok, here's one more for good measure...

Well if you like it so much, here's where it came from: Cocomint Green Tea

Here's a link for a lady that has made the Beautyberry jelly:

Life on a Southern Farm: American Beauty Berry Jelly

And here is the color of the Muscadine jelly Sherry - the best way I can describe it is neon purple:

Our jelly came out that color that is around the edge in the bowl. So beautiful!

Look at it this morning Janan, you can see it a bit beyond my Blue Girl Holly...

It's nearly completely buried!

It won't hurt it though. In fact, it'll keep it nice and warm. The snow will also protect the shrub from strong winds too. My Hollies are the same...it's perfectly ok for them to be under the snow.

Now I wish I'd made that jam after all, since my shrub is buried and can't be seen anyway!

There's snow up to (and sometimes past) your windows! :O

I'd trade tornados and hail for blizzards any day...

Hiya Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...

Yeah, I'm sick of it too Pen! It's not even winter until later December. Hope it leaves early for us though...like March 1st.

My beautyberry shrubs are completely buried now!

I didn't expect that we wouldn't see them this early.

I saw your pics in the winter thread...thanks Pen.

I'll give ya our snow anyday, Zac!

If only I could!

One good thing though, everything's protected from the snow covering. Bet my Beautyberry bushes will be just fine, even though I can't see them right now.

How are your cuttings doing, Zac?
