I think you'll love it. With great reluctance, I got rid of it because it was too tall to manage in my yard. It was my favorite for flavor.

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
For me, it fruited at 14-16' of p-stem typically, with leaves way above that. That could have been OK, but it always needed to be propped to avoid collapsing, and I found it too tricky to fit props that tall in my garden.

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Updates and additions!!!!
Pitago and 2 Dwarf Brazillian hands are maturing nicely. Now Blue Java. flower and banana pics. with 2nd flower emerging. I also have not 1 but 2 Sweetheart flowers, heavy and over 15 inches long! Beautiful ornamental Lateral Bronze 1st time, beautiful orange flower!!! Worried with Hurricane Laura fast approaching, my poor Blue Javas are already leaning which is their normal growth pattern. With the winds coming Blue Java and the large Sweetheart flower just opening has me worried., i have them staked so we will see how they all fare. on a different note the Namwah bunch harvested was some of the best i've tasted, froze a bunch too! happy growing all, Darla 118113248_3858503330831167_1372896987701271293_o-2 by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118344444_3860558837292283_7510667722030298074_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118126984_3858478307500336_5215995220213340730_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118263393_3860558777292289_7672089835490785728_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118372994_3856962180985282_1236603361484282465_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118405553_3856962594318574_4849119512175764330_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118139707_3856962697651897_3944048096938884624_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118405750_3858483527499814_8526646974129291195_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 118157678_3856962637651903_157809350646133843_n by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 117941808_3856962754318558_2176028986525209881_n-1 by Darla Reasner, on Flickr 117967941_3858483457499821_4683535052368953945_n-1 by Darla Reasner, on Flickr

Everything looks great, very cool to see the Pitogo. Mine should bloom soon. Let us know how it tastes!

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
My Saba finally bloomed! I planted a pup about 16 months ago. Don helped me select the pup on a 20 ft. mother plant at Going Bananas.... It was already 3 feet tall then. Its now 16 feet tall, and the base if 45 inches. I understand they take a while to mature so I'll need to figure out some recipes by next March.
Sorry for sideways photos... no matter what I do (file type, size, etc.) they sometimes just post sideways.

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Goldfinger (atleast how it was labeled)
Mystery banana improperly labeled purchase. I've harvested this one before, large cooking bananas with rounded ends. About 12-14 ft tall at shoot. Not sure what happened to this one. This was one I posted a page or two ago that someone replied thinking it may be Namwa. Regardless, the bananas didn't get very big and ended up skipping the ripening stage and dying off. Any ideas to what may have happened? It got plenty of water and fertilized as well. |

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
The second mystery banana looks like it might be a green Ae Ae (probably isn't, but maybe) or another type of Maoli.
They look great! Huge bunch! |
