What musa variety is this? Saw it in a Portuguese river bed...

Today i saw this musa trees on river Almonda in Torres Novas. I was very surprised!

Wow, they don’t look too happy! The opposite extreme of the normal bane of bananas being too dry. Thems too wet!!

Well i imagine that, but no one planted them there... what variety do you think they are? Musa basjoo? Even so it's so incredible to have musa trees on a Portuguese river bed...

This is a very hardy area more than mine... it's so incredible to have a musa colony self stablished in a portuguese river! I'm stoned! No one planted them! Of course they excaped some garden, some one trow them away and water river transport them to this location. This is really incredible... i have to talk with local authorities to protect them!

I don't think they are basjoo - the leaf and petiole shape/structure looks all wrong...although they are growing in an adverse environment which can sometimes induce unusual morphology.....however, that would be a pretty radical shift

AMAZING! They are literally growing on the moss & rocks.

Could they be Orinoco? Maybe

From experience Orinoco are EXTREMELY hardy and will try and grow in any condition. For example my mother digs up huge suckers to thin out her mats and one time she laid them flat on top the grass for about a week or more to wait for the "heavy trash" (tree waste) to come and to our surprise they were already sending new roots into the ground and sending out NEW shoots vertically even though they were completely dug up laying flat. I think this is why they can be found all over Florida. If you simply just dump them they will still try and grow - and likely succeed!

That being said these look a lot skinnier than mine (even though Orinoco are already skinny) and the leaves are also skinny as well. But it could simply be because of where they are growing.

Lol! I can't that's public. It's the municipality that have the jurisdiction of the river and it's beds. Those banana trees are not from anyone besides the municipality... but i can't reach there, just by boat or swimming...
