What do I do with my 4 pups on my new Gran Nain Chiquita dwarf banana ?
I’ve been trying to get some advice on my first year plant
Do I remove them before I bring in for winter storage ? Or do I leave them, remove 1,2,3 leave 1 ? I’m a newbie....and need help. Also I haven’t learned how to use this site....for info How do I get a reply? Could I get an email on vocals.one@verizon.net Or where do I look for any responses ? I’d appreciate any help. Thank you Bob D. |

Re: What do I do with my 4 pups on my new Gran Nain Chiquita dwarf banana ?
Hello,
Not sure what zone you are in, but I live in N Ga and I start bringing mine in around the 1-3rd week of November. Not an expert, but splitting more than two outside of the growing season could possibly cause corm/rotting issues. My GN last year had three pups and I split one for a backup put it in The greenhouse while the mother plant and the other two pups stayed together in a 5g bucket In The garage.it all survived through winter with almost zero water until March. I set them out in April and they grew pretty good. Not great, but they survived. I try to do most of my splitting pre planting in the spring to help speed growth and keep them cleaned off until they fruit. It’s works good with dwarf Brazilian and dwarf Namwa which have had fruit hanging since august.

Nice to be aboard' which was no info about your location and growing conditions. .... Replies to your request will be in this thread, .... but are you just phishing for email address by asking for replies by email? There are a lot of post about over wintering banana plants, use the SEARCH button on the blue bar at the top of the forum! If you are asking how to separate pups from the mother plant there are directions in the forum and videos on youtube. Pups on my GN, I leave on the plant and in the ground for the winter. ....Other more cold sensitive banana plants, I will remove a pup to the green house as a backup should the mat not make it through the winter. Yes, I see that and it is his name. ... But for someone that claims to not know how to use the forum he certainly knows how to start 2 threads and make 6 post; and read the replies. So, he should also have enough intellect to find the search function on the forum. ... It looks more like he is trolling the forum for email address.

I was keeping it lite too above. Most newbies think they should cut off and trash the pups. The OP didn't specify what he wanted to do with them. |

Re: What do I do with my 4 pups on my new Gran Nain Chiquita dwarf banana ?
I'm a newbie but just can't bring myself to trashing a pup. I had 3 Gran Nains...I say had because those things have thrown off so dang many pups its unreal. I've given away, planted in containers, even stuck 4 tiny ones in the ground no prep just to see what would happen. Guess what happened?? They're growing. Haha

Re: What do I do with my 4 pups on my new Gran Nain Chiquita dwarf banana ?
I don’t know what the hell you people are talking about !
What the hell is trolling for emails ? All I wanted was some information about what to do with my new banana plant. You made it sound like I was involved in some underhanded scheme ! You also sound ,to me, like some banana snobs who don’t want to stoop to a new user level. Well .....that’s not for me....You can keep your private club and I will not bother you with any more questions... What is interesting for me to consider is how a site like this ,which I imagine was put together to share information and enjoy all that goes into growing bananas. And what I see is a bunch of unfriendly, smart-ass , suspicious people who only associate with their own.... What a shame.... I’m out....for sure. Thanks for nothing . If I had to hazard a guess, I'd keep the largest pup, and cut off the rest. My thinking is that the impending winter would be pretty stressful on the mother plant, and to reduce the stress I'd remove anything that would pull too much energy from the main plant, but if you want to chance it by keeping a pup, I'd keep the one furthest along in the hope that it would be the soonest to begin it's own root system. That being said, I'm still just guessing because I've never had to do such a thing. So... since you pushed - now you have a response, for what it's worth, from someone who is not an authority on the topic of your question. Last edited by Yug : 10-06-2020 at 09:34 PM. |

This forum does have PM (private messenger) functions. It also, includes PM to email if the forum member wants to receive messages by email from other forum members. ... Your the one that has made 3 post in this thread. Two of which was to bash me and the other members of this forum. This seems to show you were not really interested in growing or discussing bananas to begin with. .... So bye AGENT 6789 ... Last edited by edwmax : 10-07-2020 at 08:11 AM. |

Not to mention you started getting helpful responses with people and their own experience and you just ignored them and attacked the community instead - not cool The people on the forum are some of the nicest people you will meet.
