Today I potted up my Truly Tiny ... AGAIN! 3rd time since late April. For some reason, it is really growing well lately after 3 years of being a pooper. It doubled in size in last 3-4 months.

I potted 1 Musa Bordelon, 1 Musa Sikkimensis, and 2 Musa "High Color Minis", today !!
Thanx, Thanx Bob ...... YES!!
They all arrived in Very great condition! The Bordelon has good roots & should do super!
It looks great and it's Very healthy stock:

The Sikkimensis had just a little trouble from mail handling so I helped it out with some popsicle sticks. It's Very, Very green & healthy! The new leaf is almost all the way unfurled since I planted it just a few hours ago!:

As a Lagniappe (even though I didn't know what that meant at the time) he even threw in 2 Musa "High Color Minis" !!!! Kind of like dwarf Zebrinas that actually make sweet dessert nanners! Can't wait & they're both green & healthy!:

Thanx Bob! Will be sending you a box this weekend!
Will keep them potted under as close to ideal conditions, as I can, for each. Will plant the Sikkimensis & Bordelon this coming spring! Since the High Color Minis can be outdoors or in pots & mature at about 3 1/2' tall, will leave them potted & put outside during the warm part of the season.

Really? You're giving me hope for my little guy. It is unfurling its second new leaf since it got here. The first new leaf took a little more than 2 weeks from start to finish. This leaf looks like it's taking less than 10 days. I'm wondering how long I'll keep counting leaves instead of measuring height, which really hasn't increased very much.

Today I repotted a very root bound Dwarf Cavendish (with pup) I found at Lowes. I remember what my last DC was like, though, and I'm kinda nervous about it in this mountain micro-climate. (I'm also still wondering what Lowes was thinking, labeling it "Hardy Banana." That could cause mass naner-cide this winter.)

Hi Eric,
just a few advices here: on your bordelon, cut that brown top off and continue cutting until you see the center green, 'cause the plant seems like if it could be choking in a week or two.
Also when I had leaves like that, I put the plant into the shade to recover and then in the direct sun...
Other than that, nice plants.

Talking Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?

Just what I always wanted another banana(ok an ensete), Just because I have 2 perfectly fine ones in the ground already doesn't mean I don't look. This one was going for $70 at the local Agway, it's been in a 5 gallon pot all summer. They just put everything on 50% off and this didn't have a price label but a 2 or 3 gallon was listed at 49.95 so I casually mentioned to the temp college student at the register that "the other one over there was going for $50 and half off...........I didn't exactly lie...........but got this for $25 and ran......fast.

Yep and I'm fond of telling others here that they're nuts!
You can't really tell from the pic but this is a fairly large thick stemmed specimen and is in a 20 gallon container I drilled some drainage holes in. Yep can't wait to see how the inside of the house fills up this winter.........I'm destined to end up like (you know who you are)

I've never came out and called you crazy but.............. at least I'm not as mean to you as I am to HBL. At least when I get sent to the looney bin I'll already know I'm in good company.

How's your Namwahs doing? Mine is just going strong still and I find that it always has a large leaf right behind the one that just opened. It's become my favorite of all for sure.........unless something else flowers first which I find doubtfull.

I have been looking as Ron brought it to my attention that one of the DN may not be a DN...which makes Cheryl a NOT happy camper...but I don't have enough experience on the nuances of all the varieties - so I am relying on you guys(and gals) to help me out here, if you would!

Dwarf Namwah!!!

Take a look...LMK what you think...

Thumbs up Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?

Cheryl, mine has no red at all in the leaves but as it got older and much larger it developed red in the mid ribs. I got mine from ebay as well( I think wellspring but don't really remember) so you never know........Still it seems consistant with the decription. If you notice most of the time guys like Gabe who know best will mostly wait till something flowers to give a positive ID on a questionable (and smallish) plant. Check out super dwarf cavendish in the wiki most of those pictured have no red but one does, mine here does as well...........is it possible that some of these cultivars are a bit variable? I think so since the growth habits on my SDC is very consistant with what it should look like. In any case dont sweat it, you've got beautiful healthy plants and they'll sort themselves out as time goes by.

Hi Cheryl . I'm no nanner expert yet, but I think Bob has a point. I got 4 Siam Rubys from 2 different nurseries yet all 4 look different. Also, I have noticed a little variation in other types, as well. Hope ya can get it figured out . In the meantime, thanx for the peek, beautiful nanners !!

Planted a variegated Tanna, waiting to see if it will touch the sky by the end of summer!

Note: it's hard to tell where the original soil line is at (some of the light-colored area is light because it had been covered by a leaf sheath.

Edit: After looking at my plant the next morning after a little sleep, I dug this plant up and planted it 6" deeper. Rest does wonders for the brain some times!

Congrats on the Tanna, Harvey!!!! Can't wait to see how it does for you... Please keep us updated. It would be nice if you can start a thread on it in the ornamental banana section and update it from time to time... Should be a nice specimen to have its own thread....
