I could not post this yesterday but I planted a Kru, Ebun Musak, Hua Moa, Ele Ele, Monkey Fingers, and a Rose. On my farm site preparation is a major task.

Thanks Jack , I didn't see this till just now. I really bought it because it reminded me so much of Bilders' big fat ones in Germany. Have you contacted him yet? He's kind of my cold weather growing idol. Wish I spoke German I'd keep him busy for hours!

A friend of mine called me Monday from Atlanta to tell me about some beautiful variegated bananas she found at a nursery...did I want one?
Well, hell yes, I wanted one! I ended up with a 5 ft tall aeae, now planted under my big live oak. Pics coming soon!!! Digging african reds tomorrow (if it doesn't rain AGAIN). Russell Last edited by coast crab : 08-19-2009 at 07:10 PM. |

I beleive my second attempt with transaplanting my Ice Cream pup was a suscess ! My first attempt bit the dust so I waited for a taller pup. It struggled big time and I had my doubts but noticed a leaf shooting out the top this week so I guess it is going to make it. I had a spot reserved for it and badly wanted an Ice Cream in the location before this years growing season ended. Also, my first Basjoo planted year before last finally took off this year. I read on one of the forums to be patient, it may take a year or two for a Basjoo to get esatablished. I think this one has.

This might be off subject a bit but this is my first post and I have some questions about where to plant. I already know what I want to plant. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I need to be conservative and shoot for EVERYTHING that can survive being left in the ground year round. I am in zone 9a. Questions are:
How much distance should you leave between different varieties of banana plants? I have lots of fence line that I am planting naners along. Are banana plants in any way harmful to horses? Lonie |

This week I planted a Mona Lisa, French Horn, SH-3640, Pisang Raja, Ebun Musak, Musa accuminata banksii, and an unknown Puerto Rican variety. I even received a "flyover" while working on the project!

Today I planted a Musa itinerans itinerans that I got from Bananaman88 a couple of months ago. I gave it time in a pot for it to acclimate and for me to learn more about it. Thanks Brent and Frank for the information!!

Cool! I'd like to hear about this variety in your environment as time goes on.

I have two older mats of Kofi, and the one I planted is a pup from my largest mat that is now pushing pups. When the weather get cool and wet in winter, it is effected by Black sigatoka. But when the weather warms up with night time temps in the 70s, the disease become less active. I hope this helps.
