Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?
Corbin (Seek Christ) read my thread and learned i got 2 Ensete Maurellis when what I thought i ordered was Zebrinas. He sent me [for shipping only] 2 big Zebrinas, 3 dwarf Cavendishes, and another one that I'm not sure what it is yet!! Thanx Corbin!!
I'll add some better photos after school. It was already night when I got home and found the package yesterday. Awesome!! If it stays as hot as it's been, I'll prolly put them in the ground till November or a little later! K! It's Friday now and tons of sunlight! Here's how they look now in their pots! I'll prolly keep them in pots for a few days then put them in the ground. The Zebrinas The 3 dwarf Cavendishes I can't read the label so I needa find out what this one is. Also, I was only expecting 2 bananas but he sent 6!! I had to do some searching for extra pots, lol! This banana and pineapple thing is so awesome, I might try coconut trees next! UPDATE: I just found out what the other one is! It's called a Ebun Musak! Also, the biggest Zebrina is not a Zebrina, it's an Orinoco!

Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?
Tony is correct. I have lots of gophers. Every plant has to have a wire basket. It is a pain in the ass! It takes a long time to make the wire basket. The wire cuts you. The rolls of wire cost $85 per roll. I have easily bought 10 rolls by now. If you don't use the basket your plant will be eaten. I have become proficient in catching the little bastards.

Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?
Andrew,
I'm guessing you mean Kluai Ngang Phaya? Which is the same as the true Phillipine Lakatan from the paper I have. Where'd you get it from? |

Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?
Andrew, did I hear that Exotica went out of business this year?
According to my pal Wikipedia, the Bull Snake is just a large subspecies of Gopher snake that doesn't occur in CA. You should stock up on Pacific Gopher Snakes to save the hassle of gopher-proofing your planting holes! |

Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?
I made the mistake of trying to remember a common name of the local Pituophis. Make sure it is the local species/subspecies for your area. I don't know reputable dealers there but neighbors that don't like snakes in their yards can be a good source. I did a quick search and came up with californiaherps.com which had a color range maps for the Pacific Gopher snake.
I hope this helps, biological controls are always best! |
