![]() I can't comment on Dwarf Namwa - but a good clone of Orinoco has superb fruits if you let them ripen properly. Dwarf Cavendish are ok - in the medium range taste-wise!

![]() Tony was kind enough to send me some of the dwarf Namwah fruits he harvested. It is a very good fruit. To me, they aren't too sweet. They are like a Manzano with a little less flavor. Nice, firm fruit with an apple flavor that comes almost as an aftertaste. Also, a very thin peel, like a manzano, but none of that horrible astringency if they are on the green side. I'm eating one right now.
Also, Tony included a bonus fruit, an Orinoco. Not for me as dessert banana. Not a lot of flavor and the texture isn't great. I've had some others (from the grocery store) that I cooked, and they were good fried. Don't know what Cassie's ripening technique is, but I've had them anywhere from having some green to almost totally black, and none of those were very good as a dessert fruit. But different strokes for different folks. Or maybe just a different cultivar. Also had some Pisang Klotek fruits from Mitchel over the last week. They were the flavor test winners for me. Even after the rave reviews I've read here about there flavor, it was still a surprise how fruity and acidic they were. My wife and I thought they tasted somewhat like pineapple. A friend thought strawberry. But you get the idea, there's a lot of flavors that you might not expect from a banana. And Mitchel says this bunch was no where near the best he's grown. I don't know if the flavor of Pisang Klotek is any different other Mysore cultivars, since I haven't tasted any others. |

![]() Hey Mark, my thoughts about this bunch being inferior were confirmed by my wife's boss who's had all my different bananas over the years. His favorites are the PK's, but not this time. Still a wonderful fruity taste, but the texture and color are off, possibly from early harvesting or the cold weather.
Anyway, glad you guys enjoyed them. ![]() |

![]() It is always interesting to hear people's opinions on taste of different bananas!
All my friends liked Namwah, and couldn't understand why I got rid of the plant. Some said it had a kiwi like taste, but to me it was sweet with out much balance of acidity. I liked everything else about the plant though! It sounds like I would enjoy the PK's as I really can't get enough of the more acidic tasting types! The taste of bananas sure seems to be affected negatively by climate ( especially cold weather) when the fruit is forming or picked, as well as mineral content of the soil. I have been experimenting with High Brix gardening methods, and as far as I can tell so far, the minerals do seem to increase the sweetness of the fruit. I will be purchasing a refractometer in the future to confirm my suspicions, but for now I'm just going on taste! Is anyone else here using High Brix methods?

![]() Where do you get a Pisang Klotek? It sounds like I might like them.
Hey Mitchel, I love that shot. I am going to show it to my wife when she gets home she is a photographer, I think she will like it. |

![]() Steve, you'd have to get one from me or one of the several board members that I've given pups to over the years. I'm fresh out of pups and time so hopefully someone else can hook you up with one. Maybe place an add here and see if anyone responds.
