So my friend called me this morning with a mystery. He harvested his banana bunch and cut down the banana stalk down to 6 inches. Now a month or two later, new growth is pushing up from the middle of the stump. I’ve never heard of this before… I always assumed once harvested/cut down that was it for that particular plant. He said this was the second time this has happened to his Nam Wah. Do you think its just a pup that happened to push up thru the stump or is this something else? Bananas always present something new....

That would be very weird! It looks like there is a stump to the left, so maybe he cut that pup down when he harvested the bunch and forgot, and though the one he harvested the fruit off re-grew?

Maybe the new buds are forming on top of the corm instead of the sides?

something odd i discovered after the last hurricane, last fall. i had a sweetheart blow over and when i looked it had a corm growing on the p-stem about 3 inches above ground. the p-stem was weak in between the 2 corms and broke.
so i potted it, put it near the dining room windows and forgot about it. today i went to see how it was doing, the banana on the left is the sweetheart.
