Re: My first Banana plant!!!
Thank you. I guess it would need a pollinator, which of course, depending on what that was, would affect the nature of the progeny. Keep the pictures coming

Re: My first Banana plant!!!
No, Da Jiao is self fertile. Very cold hardy and good flavor bananas.

Re: My first Banana plant!!!
Gabe said mine is regular Orinoco. Unfortunately I can't post pictures here (can't resize them for forum). To me they tasted excellent and maybe I even let them to over ripe 2-3 days. You can send me mail address or WhatsApp contact in PM and I can send you pictures of fruit there.

Re: My first Banana plant!!!
They sound delicious. I just meant, in order for the fruit to contain seeds, it would need a pollinator. I have no doubt the fruit will fill out with or without another flowering banana plant around. Definitely keep us posted on its progress

Re: My first Banana plant!!!
I have C. Champa and it's doing good. Hajaray was a good for me but I made some beginner mistakes and lost it. Saba is just to tall, no way it could stand our winds.

Re: My first Banana plant!!!

Due to my growing zone I grow for foliage and size and if I get a flower it is a bonus. General granular fertilizers I use for growth and size. General purpose Triple 10 through 19 all work well and there are some forum members that use this for their bananas in the growth stage. I do use generic water soluble fertilizers like Miracle grow(24-8-16) also. These two fertilizers are to be used with caution and understanding that plant death will occur is misused. 46-0-0 urea for color enhancement and size. 21-0-0 ammonium sulfate for color enhancement and size. All above fertilizers work very well for landscape plantings and general lawns feeding also. Fellas on the forum frequently use a 16-8-24 (or close)ratio for fruiting bananas. https://www.amazon.com/Banana-Fertil.../dp/B07HDTVRG2 There are also some good threads about fertilizer use and what brands and ratios to use for fruiting bananas on the forum. |
