I'm in zone 6 and producing fruit is a 2 to 3 year ordeal but I enjoy it. It turns into a neighborhood party when the bunch ripens lol! It's so funny how so many people find it interesting how bananas fruit. Bananas aren't to hard to grow and are very rewarding .

That's great your banana tree is fruiting on right station... by bunch suffered a lot with late cold and many bananas died. I still have bananas there but i think they will not grow more and fill... i don't know if i will take it down or wait a bit more...

Musa dajiao is a special banana variety. Da means "big" and jiao = "banana". It is a cross between the Musa sikkimensis and Musa balbisiana. This banana grows very fast and you do not have to wait long for a big banana. The underside of the banana leaf is set with a white haze. It is a large, well-edible banana that tends to "Namwah" in taste. The Musa dajiao must be able to overwinter frost-free. In the open ground in winter, this banana would freeze all the way to the ground. This is not fatal for the banana plant, it will come back from the roots in the spring. The banana plant would not produce bananas because it must be at least 2 years old to be in bloom. The Musa dajiao comes from China and the banana is used a lot for consumption.

Nice, looking great. I am assuming given the cross you mention, the fruit has seeds, correct? If so, and you are willing, I would be very interested in buying some from you.

Nice to see you back Luis. I liked the taste of mine that bloomed last summer. I'm afraid another stem will bloom in September what will be to late to have ripe fruit in my climate
