This video is about banana plant propagation. The guy in the video says that you can choose on what side your banana plant will produce fruit later by planting the pup a certain way. Is that correct or what is your experience? Would help to know if it works especially if planting on a hill side. Theory in the video is that fruit will develop on the opposite site of where the pup has been removed from the mother plant. Last edited by crazy banana : 05-21-2013 at 12:51 AM. |

Yes, that is correct. The pup will flower away from the mother plant. Where ever the cut/separation in the corm is, the pup will flower the opposite way. |

![]() I have to try this right in front of my office window. I was afraid it would turn, flower and fruit towards the sun but this is very interesting to know. Thank you very much!

![]() Not What I have experienced! I had a pup come up from the mother in the opposite side from my neighbors yard (directly over the fence) and it fruited right at the mother, Not away. The raceme was hanging directly over the mother trunk (mother was cut)
There is no way the pup came from another piece of corm, allowing it to fruit toward the mother. Then it happened three more times. Plus, I Planted them cut side away from the neighbors property AND THEY FRUITED on his side anyway! Then recently I had one that should have fruited right one the property line and it went clear on our side! Then I had another that should have gone barely on our side and it went clear on the neighbors side! If you don't remember, my neighbor has cut my bananas before. Btw "should have gone here, or there" is assuming that it will fruit opposite the cut side. * What have you guys experienced?* Thanks! ![]() |

![]() Don't know what first generation does when removed and planted away from the parent plant, but subsequent generations in a mat usually are slightly angled away from the parent plant, probably in search of sunlight, and seem to fruit away from the parent plant. It would take very careful testing to eliminate the variables. Very seldom do I see I see a perfectly perpendicular plant. Most plants have some degree of tilt and the fruit tends to form in the direction of the tilt. from what I have seen.

![]() My plants all tilt towards the sun to some extent and that's the side the fruit tends to fall.
