That's a good idea. I already took one big one off, getting the other big one and a smaller one this weekend, leaving one.

The large one I cut off is already pushing hard. It surprised me that it hardly seemed stressed, just kept on pushing leaves.

What kind of spade are you guys using?
Have a small trowel with a pointy end but I feel that's not really the best to separate pups. My shovel is too big for some scenarios.

Thinking about getting something like this specifically to dig out suckers.

Yeah, I use something similar. I think its called an irrigation shovel/spade. I wish mine had a wider foot pad for better downforce. Mine's a bit narrow so can be difficult/awkward to generate the power to separate pups with a thick connection to the mother plant.
