Canary Island bananas
Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows which variety is grown throughout the islands? They look like Gran Nain to me; I'm pretty sure they are a Cavendish but not the Williams one we grow in Australia. There's lots of marketing info on them but I haven't found any specific scientific data on the variety(ies).. |

Pro Musa says;
Dwarf Cavendish is the most popular cultivar, followed by Grande Naine and local Cavendish variants. I also found another site that mentioned Lady finger and Plantains. |

canary islands, spain?,; zone 9 to 11. you can grow just about anything there you want to 9a to 11. in saying this, around you, there are one heck of a lot more varieties than the ones you named. hundreds? thousands?
why are you asking? your question is kind of broad. commercially or residential? for a start.

Probably the same as on Madeira island. They locally call them Robusta and is also Cavendish banana

yes, dwarf cavendish would probably be one of the more types of bananas grown in those zones. very easy to propagate.
but what about the baby food market or like pr-giants and the variegated markets. both markets are high dollar. so i would think that it's a lot more complicated to pin down than one or 2 varieties.
