I had no idea what he was ranting about. Seemed out of line. Tons of people grow in pots. When I lived at the trailer park I grew in the woods. We grow banana plants all the time in Florida in the shade. Sucrier, ornata, and dwarf Brazilian growing in the shade right now.

I just don't understand. I thought we were having a normal "conversation" on the thread about growing bananas and then he comes at me saying I misled users by not saying I'm in an apartment and that I'm complaining.
It's unfortunate this happened. I've been visiting bananas.org since the mid 2000s, I've only been treated well on this forum until today. Z |

The fingers of the first hand are now ripe enough to eat. The inner core is a little firm while the rest softer. They are not as fruity tasting as say, Manzano but otherwise what you wish a "Chiquita" would taste like.

Here's some characteristics of the banana I'm growing labeled "Pisang Ceylon":
I'm growing it in zone 10b San Diego county California, where our highest humidity is when it's cool and our lowest humidity (sometimes < 10%) is when it's hot. It fruits at a pstem height of 7 feet. The time of harvest is typically mid-summer. At that time I'll also have a single 3' to 4' pup (due to thinning) which will be next year's crop. The plant appears to be as "cool tolerant" as Namwa. The average fruit is about 4 inches long and 1 inch at the largest diameter. The flesh has an orangish hue. It is sweet, but also has slight sub-acid flavor with something like nectarine overtones. Here's two pictures, one of the stalk with fruit bud and the other during flowering and fruiting. ![]()

Richard, how far do you have those pipes sunk into the ground? The GM that isn't fruiting is definitely leaning away from the one that is (right over my yang mei graft which I do not want to lose) so I should probably hook up something similar to keep it upright-ish.

Hmm, another project. Unfortunately the area where I would have to bury that cinder block is beneath my fig tree or the other Gros Michel. I wonder if the city would mind my tying into their incense cedar?
