In the prior decade, I grew and fruited Dwarf Cavendish several times in the ground in western Rancho Peñasquitos USDA zone 9b near Black Mountain middle school.

Pisang Ceylon blooms consistently at a pstem height of 7' for me.

7 ft is not too bad for Pisang Ceylon, I'll have to think about it.

Richard, I did know that know that you fruited Dwarf Cavendish in the San Diego area. You must have had a good microclimate situation at your place. Both pitangdiego and crazybanana have mentioned that cavendish don't do as well for them in the San Diego area. I also consider them experts.
I, however, am not giving up on dwarf cavendish. This time I'm going to give it more sun and see how that goes.

Yeah that darn canyon pushes that cold air through! I'm in University City/La Jolla which I guess is NNW of San Diego proper.

Trevor Hoffman lives in that area!

Yes, up on the bluff the climate is ok but down in the canyons small thin crusts of ice can form in the winter.

Do you have a yard for growing plants or are you in an apartment/condo ?

That's the thing Richard! I'm in an apt. Thankfully I'm on the bottom floor and I can plant stuff in pots beyond my balcony but it limits my banana hobby :/ I'm thinking of renting a house next year but it would be in South Bay not here.

I am above the canyons so hopefully I won't get ice this winter.

So at best you can get 3/8 day sun which is insufficient for any cultivar that would otherwise tolerate the climate. By not divulging this information you've been deceitful with other members here. Pisang Ceylon fruiting at 7 feet? Strange because my young Ceylon suckers are 7 foot. Mine only fruit at 12 foot +.

All reputable databases report pstem height, not plant height.

I have read reports from TN Ag of Improved Mysore (Pisang Ceylon) fruiting at 14', and the latter by members at this site in very south Florida at 10'-11', and here in San Diego County CA (not San Diego TX) at 7'. Mine have been consistent at 7' for three years in the same mat.

This of course has very little to do with Zacarius who is complaining about bananas to grow here when in fact he does not have a viable growing environment.

Couple months ago I had a 3 foot shoot. We just harvested fruit and it had a 12 foot pseudo at harvest. I cut the 12 footer down and recycled it and the 3 foot pup is now 8 foot. No care at all since I planted it December of 2016 and it is planted in sand and compacted phosphate clay which is common in my neighborhood. I heard Klotek was near the same but Klotek is not even close and seems to be pupping at a smaller height.
