Why dose one banana ripen, and then the whole field ripens?

On a traffic light green means go and yellow means yield, but on a banana it's just the opposite. Green means hold on, yellow means go ahead, and red means where the hell did you get that banana at...

I don't know for sure why that first one ripens, but the rest ripen presumably due to the ethylene

Probably ethylene gas produced by ripening fruit.

It must be a ton of it because a banana tree 65ft away started to ripen at the exact same time,
