Cold Tolerance of M. Textiles (Abaca)?

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with M. Textiles (Abaca) and its cold tolerance? I would appreciate any info the group can offer.

I don't know about the cold hardiness of true M. textilis (I would think it nothing special being as it is not from any extremes in altitude naturally). However, every "M. textilis" I have seen in the U.S. is not M. textilis, it appears rather to be a M. balbisiana hybrid, it may be the canton hybrid though (M. balbisiana x M. textilis, a very unusual cross considering the cross sectional nature of it, but they do exist). I have pictures I can post later today of this plant. This hybrid could be hardier than M. textilis I suppose.

That's a biggun! Where was that pic taken, Gabe, and is it the real deal or a hybrid? Thanks for posting it.

Those pictures are of a M. balbisiana form or hybrid that is labled as M. textilis, this is the same plant Going Bananas sells as M. textilis. They were taken at the National Botanic Gardens in Washington DC. They were very large plants, easily 20ft+ and about 1.5ft at the base.
