Cold Cold weather damage

Wahhhhhhhhh....
Looks like I lost my three small Mahoi's to the frost.

Should I try to dig them up and pot them to see if there is anything left of them?

Thanks!

Thanks guys. I can't believe this cold stuff! It could get into the 20's tomorrow night... My plants close to the house still looked good today. The ones I moved farther out in the yard, not so good. Saba and Sweetheart have very burned leaves. Orinoco and Dwarf Namwah are the only ones out there that still look strong. Going out to cover them now.

Weather warm up. Weather warm up. Weather warm up.

It that time of year. This is my first winter with the bananas and all are doing well except for dwarf puerto rican. That one seems to be getting the worst of the cold. I think its only gotten down to the mid 30's over here on Oceanside.

I wouldn't count on it to be the last night this season. There's about like 75 or more winter nights....

Okay, got it. For us, tonight is the coldest night of this week's forecast. Mid to upper 20's.

My husband said that he didn't have ice on his car this morning like he did yesterday. It seems really cold out there right now though. Guess I'd better cover and wrap soon.
I think you are right about the cold winter Mark. :06:

I have a bad habit of waiting until like, midnight, to go out there. Of course by then it's so cold I bundle up like I'm in a blizzard. LOL!
Last night I was thinking that if any of the neighbors happened to look out, they'd really know I'm bananas!!! Crazy woman running around in the middle of the night wrapping blankets and fabric around the plants. And covering the leaves of the smaller ones. Oh, and I do talk to the plants while I'm doing that stuff. LOL!!!

Okay ... you're not alone - another crazy lady here!

One of my neighbors actually told me he had decided I was 'crazy but harmless' when he saw me putting Xmas lights on my plants (nanas, varie lemon, varie hibiscus, etc) instead of the trees, windows, or eaves. And topping that off w/blankets & sheets, or in the lemon's case - a patio umbrella to provide some shielding!

He decided that maybe I just had a 'slight' case of crazy after I took he & his wife some fudge ... chocolate helps you to get away with just about anything - including talking to your plants as you're tucking them away for the night!

Oh, and I'd thought about putting Christmas lights on the bananas, too!

Joe,

There will be other cold nights in the southland, but in most years, the coldest weather does come about the 3rd week of December. That seems to be when we get the coldest, clearest nights. In San Diego, I usually get two or three nights at 40, and they are always in the December period. There will be other nights in the low/mid 40s, but seldom as far down as 40 the rest of the winter. The temps in the inland valleys will be in the 20s, but up on my hill we do not get that low.
