![]() Hi
I live in Auckland, New Zealand. We NEVER get frosts - well maybe a freak one every few years. The lowest winter temperature will be 40oF/5oC. That's about it but it's more likely to be 45-50oF/8-10oC at nighttime and 55-60oF/13-15oC during the day in winter. In Summer it's like 75-80oF/23-26oC and 60-just below 70oF/15-19oC. Also, my particular plants have protection from the southern hemisphere version of frigid northerly winds. Am I a cold climate? I have two lady fingers and two other varieties to be ID'd. |

![]() Optimal?
No... Summer could do with a degree or two colder and for me... winter nights and days 2 or 3 degrees warmer ![]() But then I couldn't grow olives... Tropical grass is SO much greener! |

![]() You should also love a new football team - Man U? Come on man..
![]() I might also add that we're 3 weeks away from the shortest day of the year and daily highs are still 20oC. haha This summer has been nuts... But I'm sure we'll get blasted sometime soon.. Last edited by ChilliNZ : 05-07-2013 at 04:02 PM. |

![]() Most varieties should do fine for you except for the really warm weather loving ones. Avoid the AA varieties, the AAA varieties, and some of the AAB like the plantains and Pacific plantains if you want the fastest production.

![]() This has been posted before .....the list that is.
For those that are thinking what is cool hardy..... and cold hardy...... is there a difference? I have the same variety of plants in multi zones .. and they react differently or faster to environmental changes. The list seems pretty accurate. And this member did a little research to compile this. The cold hardy list Last edited by cincinnana : 02-12-2016 at 06:40 AM. |

![]() Unless Auckland has recently moved to the tropics, it isn't ideal for growing the really tropical varieties.
