Hi everyone,

I am new to the site and live in the northern Tampa Bay area. I think I am in zone 9b and I also have a lake in my backyard so I am testing my limits to see what I can grow. I currently have three peach cultivars growing in my backyard (uf sun, uf one, and tropic snow) along with ponkan tangerine, Valencia orange, kumquat, hass avocado, pickering mango, guanabana (potted), sapote, guava, blueberries, dragon fruit (physical graffiti, natural mystic, bloody mary, and Haley's comet), papaya and a some others I know I am missing.

As far as bananas go, I have a few different varieties and I'm not really sure how well they are going to do in my area. Currently, I have ice cream, African rhino horn, praying hands, grand nain, and I have an fhia-23 and a tc gros Michel on the way.

Looking forward to learning from this site and sharing pups. hopefully I can find someone in my area.

Cheers,
George

Awesome! I will definitely reach out to you to share what I have. I currently only have a couple of banana pups (African rhino horn and praying hands), but I would love to trade if you are interested. I should have more to share in the spring.

Thanks! I am always looking to add more to my collection. I really hope what I have manages to survive through the winter. We have already had a little dip in temps down into the upper 50s and my guanabana does not like that (hence the pot).

I need to look into how to get one of those as I would really love to grow one! I had a tropic beauty that died a while back and I really wanted to get another one, but now you have me thinking in another direction.

Hey Merce3. IT's been a few years since you made your initial post on this thread and I was wondering What survived for you and what did not do so well? I have been wanting to get Gros Michel and am in Lutz.
Looking forward to hearing about your successes.

I am curious if you, Paulzie, have fruited that dwarf red, yet? I ended up with one, and hear they are difficult to fruit and take a long time as well. The novelty of red bananas isn't worth it if those things are true, they aren't that much better than Cavendish.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

i lost all of my peaches except for the uf sun. we had so much rain last year and the year before that i lost the ones closest to the water table. the uf sun is declining and needs to be replaced, but it still a manageable size to chop up.

my citrus is doing okay... my ponkan is declining mostly due to neglect, but my valencia is doing great. i also grafted a bunch of lemons that i got from italy including a red finger lime and a eureka lemon.

hass avocado is doing great, but hasn't fruited yet.

pickering is about 5' and held 15 mangoes this year. also planted a mallika, lemon zest, venus, maha chanok, and nam doc mai mango.

dragon fruit and papaya are all doing great yielding prolific amounts of fruit.

bananas
- lost everything except praying hands and ice cream, but i have added so much more. i'll update my thread when i can:
