Opened the front door cause the dog was barking. Four feet from the front door the big one is staring me down. Took a step out and he didn't move. Slowly went back and got the camera.

These guys are around all the time now. Anybody know what attracts them specifically?

They show up around here too. It's that time of year. When they decide they want to stop somewhere when migrating, they just do. You can call your local Fish and Game office to see if they are tracking them.

Be careful around them though, they can be pretty quick with those bills and we've seen them kill a full grown fox with one strike.

What exacatly are they. Except for their striking abilities they seem to be nice looking.

Wow ---- will do some research on the sandhill crane. Had lunch last week with 4 of them. Taco joint in Ft Pierce sitting at an outdoor picnic table. They just stare at you and your food. Tossed them a piece of lettuce - no interest. The onions they gobbled.

Oh man you think you got problems !!! These things are constantaly standing around .They dont even have brains enough to move when I turn on my sprinklers.
The only time they move is when I mow.. The little one is downright nasty!

If you want to see some serious striking, I share my mountain with some large raptors and

they're not even afraid of my German Chihuahuas. The only really problem is they don't get

to teach the next generation that Chihuahuas think raptors taste like chicken. :08::08::08:

Speaking of raptors ---- a little screech owl scared the heck out of the dog. Sitting on top of the fence in the dark. Dog barked and rushed the fence and owl took off and landed further down the fence. A few more barks and it took off.

Saw a great horned owl in a neighboring tree top when working on the car.

And we have lots of bald eagles in our area. They nest sometimes in the highest street light poles. Have seen many.

Keith --- what kind of raptors do you see?

I usually have 3 or 4 over my house all day long, just hovering in the breeze.

It's not a safe place during the day for small mammals, cats beware!!! :ha::ha::ha:

We have a pair the come every year. Have not seen a baby yet this year. They are pretty friendly. I feed them bread when I seen them in my yard, The female will even eat out of our hand. I know they are protected so I just try to help them.

I am sometimes concerned that there may be velociraptors in my back yard somewhere... I don't dare go out in the dark!

They are there. Be afraid! Be very afraid!!!

REMEMBER

Life will find a way!

I have Triceratops in mine. I found a baby. It was only an inch and a half long and my wife tried to tell me it was a rhinoceros beetle but I know better! When the winds blow strong from the Gulf I see pterodactyls. My wife thinks they are Pelicans. What does she know! Oh wow look at the time I have to go to my optometrist appointment! Think he'll believe me?

PS I think they are all after my Bananas!

I wouldn't give the cranes bread. They tend to eat grains and seeds, in addition to various bugs and grasses and such.

Don't get caught though, it's illegal to feed them.

Trebor, I believe those pink ones are venomous...

I thought I was the only one with a velociraptor infestation. I hung a bunch of CDs out to scare away mine, but now they just hang around complaining about AOL service being slow.

I wish I had a video, it was pretty amazing to watch and was over in a few seconds.

My Chihuahuas had about 250 feet of ground to cover and the Guaraguao didn't have enough

time to get airborne. It just raised it's wings like a bullfighter holding a cape on each side of his body.

Chihuahuas are center mass strikers and without breaking stride there was just a cloud of feathers.

I do have some athletic dogs, I drive a F-150 and many times they jump over it instead of running around it.
