#99 While planning for a cruise to the Caribbean one of you major concerns is that you will run out of room in your suitcase for banana corms to bring back.

#100 You cry and cry when customs lightens your suitcase by confiscating all your banana corms you brought back from your cruise to the Caribbean.

LOL!!!
I left out alot of that story. Like the other cats running in all directions; dog barking like crazy; Cockatoo also barking - okay- SCREAMING - like crazy. Which makes the other birds start yelling... Oh, and the two shards of glass that somehow sliced the back of my hand open. Always an adverture at our house. ![]() |

Why wouldn't you be able to bring any back ? I buy plants from overseas all the time. Less than 13 plants doesn't even need a Phytosanitary certificate. There are just a few plants that you can''t bring into the U.S., Bananas isn't one of them as far as I know.

Having plants shipped from "certified nurseries" is not the same thing as a civilian (not a plant dealer) --- trying to bring plants/corms/bulbs in your luggage into the US thru customs.
I have been thru this in a return trip from PR which is still part of the USA. Every thing veggie/fruitee was thrown into bins with no questions asked? If you snuk a bunch of quenepas in your pants you had to eat them on the plane as you were checked again when you debarked. I live in a state that is overrun with foreign plant and fish species, diseases. More people need to take ownership in goings on, wherever they live. Environmental, social issues -- etc.. When one sees how many red lights get run on a given day here in Fla it's obvious why there are so many man-made environmental problems. Many folks don't care, don't take ownership or pride in their communities - yet they continue to live here. We that do care often get hot, upset and vocal when stuff happens. Sorry if If anyone was offended about this post before edit. Dan Bananimal Last edited by bananimal : 09-04-2007 at 10:33 AM. Bananimal,
Did you fly into Florida from P.R.? , that might be why if so. Florida has lots of State regulations in addition to the Federal ones that everybody is under.I remember driving from California to Louisiana and being stopped at the Arizona border and pretty much having to get rid of any kind of fruit/plant.That's another place with all kinds of State regs. I'm pretty sure that most of the guys in Thailand that I've dealt with weren't "certified" nurseries, in fact i got a package of plants from there on Thursday. |

Dan ,
Many , if not most , of the fish and plants you reffer to are not ones that someone brought in 'up the sleeve ' . They came in through the proper channels and just happened to do well in that enviroment . Some were even introduced as a means of control . This is only my understanding and I could be very wrong about this and apologize if thats the case . I would not have even posted on this but you dropped it in what is supposed to be a light hearted thread . On that note....Can't we all just get along ? |

Ok... just so that this thread can move on with what it was intended for. I would like to offer bananimal an open invitation to PM me to resolve this issue in a peaceful and respectful manner. I came to this website to make friends, NOT enemies. I apologize for my foul language used in my post and will remove it out of respect for all the other members of this wonderful site.
and to get the ball rolling again... #107 You might be a banana fiend if... you know that the 'bunchy top virus' is not a series of bad hair-dos from the '80's. |
