Same thing on lake Okeechobee. Great bass fishing but limit consumption to one fish every 3 years. As the pollutants increase the time between intake is increased. yum yum :lurk:

Foote dam tailwater....Au Sable River Oscoda, Michigan
This is where I started my snorkeling journey. My wife wants no part of this even after I assured her it was perfectly safe and I had done this before.....she dropped me off and proceeded to a park downstream to wait for me. ![]() Fish stacked up in a quit riffle in photo below. Mix of smallmouth bass and a very few trout which embed themselves in the rocks...lots of crayfish and aquatic nymphs. Very large sucker fish on the bottom of the river which would not budge when harassed. Massive bass in the brush and timber. ![]() . Hittin the riffles later after I snorkeled/free floated a few miles of the river the day before to Lake Huron....and NO sharks.....I was always looking over my shoulder though. Average river current speed 1-8 mph my guess and of course it kicked my butt. Depth of the water 10 feet to the right of me in the photo is about 6 -10+- and fast cold clear water. Water depth very deceiving. However the whole experiance was very safe . . ![]() Another dam, another day of the same thing; however there were a lot more walleye and hand size bluegill. Water depth 2-12 ft with current speed at 1-4 mph my guess. Worms and poppers were used in this river. ![]() |

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
I just went pier fishing in Daytona Beach, FLorida. It was about a two hour drive, but the pier has a restaurant too, and with the menu and the fishing, I figured it was worth the drive.
I ended up with 4 fish I had to throw back, 3 angelfish and 1 mangrove snapper, but the day was one awesome time. I saw manatees, dolphins, a barracuda, a bonnethead shark, a sea turtle and lots of annoying grackle birds. Apparently the middle of next month, the fish start really hitting there, so I'll go back. |

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Last weekend I hit the Skyway Pier in St Petersburg/Tampa. There were the expected dolphins all over. Still didn't catch much in the way of fish, although I got a lot of small grunts and a jack.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Not yet, I had to drive to Tampa(that ended up in St Pete), so I made a fishing trip out of it. I'm hoping that next weekend or the one after I'll go back down to Daytona pier.

I will keep it in mind for sure. I'm always looking for places to fish without a boat.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Since I've lived here all my life, alligators don't bother me. Unless I happen on a really large bull gator or a female on a nest, generally they won't bother you. As a kid, we used to tag the big ones on the tail while they were sunning, daring each other to the biggest ones. Dumb things we do as kids.

I've been fishing off the St Augustine pier(Vilano), the public docks in Palatka, and down to the Daytona Beach Sunglow pier. Actually caught a legal edible sheephead finally. I caught a lot of too-small fish too.
On Thanksgiving I'm planning on fishing at the Skyway Pier in St Petersburg. (all FLorida) |

Low level dam at Woodward and Matanzas Avenue, Fort Pierce, Fla.
Fresh on one side salt water on the other..deep water each side. Conceal and carry is highly recommended.......never mind...... open carry. After a very heavy rain (hurricane) fishing these areas are recommended for massive snook.... As well as all the low levels in the area.. Just cast in the boil at the bottom of the dam. Manatee congregate there for the warm water coming off the canals....a lot of them... ![]() Untitled by Hostafarian, on Flickr. .. ![]() Rosarita Ave low level dam by Hostafarian, on Flickr. :ha: :ha: JUST KIDDING here is his cabin. you can only reach by water, no electricity, etc. etc. the cabin was built by my buddies uncle in the late 40s or early 50s. I helped put on the roof over 20 years ago. we have totally rebuilt the cabin since then. pics off the dock. |
