Hi JaNan & Cam!
![]() I wish we had some warm weather to enjoy...I was just looking for a pair of socks because my feet are freezing! So how hot will it be in July & August there then JaNan? How are things in your aero-garden? Did you see the shots of my sundew seedlings today? If you blow the shots up, you'll see them. : ) |

I'm reading all the New Posts now.
Could easily be between 110 to 115 in July and August. We are already in a drought from no rain. It doesn't bode well for the rest of the year since this is when we usually get our rain! I'm getting a reply ready for the AG thread now! ![]()

Sherry, sorry to hear you are still getting cold temperatures. Its up to around mid 40s during the day here now and high 29s to low 30s at night. It looks like the trees are starting to bud.
I got motivated to mark the area for "dig safe." In MA it is the law that before you plant shrubs or trees, or even till a garden you have to mark the area and call a special number so all the utilities can be notified to come out and mark any of their stuff that is in the area you plan to dig. My blueberry bushes showed up Thursday or Friday, so I'm eager to get them in the ground. Hopefully I can get the utilities to come out and do their thing and get the plants in the ground in about a week. That will put it probably 3 weeks early but probably won't kill many if any of the plants. I'll just mulch around them real good. I guess someone somewhere dug where they shouldn't so now everyone has to call. If you don't they even have a form on their website where you can report your neighbors and if your neighbors report you, you get a nice fine. Not sure how much it is, but not interested in finding out. |

Cool JaNan...looking forward.
![]() Cam, I'll post it here for you too...blow up this shot and you can especially see the "biggest" sundew seedling on the top... ![]() Hi Tom! ![]() That's pretty wild that you have to call the Utilities before you can dig. You do here too, but they don't seem to be as strict about it and I'm not sure if there's a fine. Good luck planting your stuff. ![]() : ) |

That last picture you took looks like a monster. Why is the cube so green? Is it algae or the regular color of the cube?

The green specks on the brown sponge Tom, are the sundew sprouts!!!
I told you they were small! I thought it was mold too at first, but it's little sundew plants! The pod the sponge is sitting in, just looks huge because I turned the sponge over and used the smaller side. ![]() Make sense now? : ) |

Nope, the sponge is brown, but the green specks are the seedlings.
![]() So excited to grow them. I could burst! ![]() I've fixed it so the sponge isn't sitting down in the water anymore, because the nutrients will kill them! ![]() So what new stuff are you guys planning to grow this summer? I'd like to try some new kinds of peppers...surprise surprise! ![]() : ) |

I want to grow celery. Not sure about it though. I don't see the seeds or plants around here so maybe it can't be grown around here.

Re: Insomnia Thread...
You should check your nursery too Tom, because they likely have celery seedlings...I recall seeing some at ours in previous seasons.
I'm currently trying to sprout some purple pitcher seeds in the aero-garden, but I've also got some of them cold-stratifying in my fridge on a moist sponge for one month. It's already been 10 days and when the times comes, they go into my A-G to germinate. I'm trying different methods until I have success, and only sowing a 3-4 seeds at a time....so I don't run out of chances. ![]() Here's how purple pitcher plant looks and then you'll all know why I'm so excited and why I'd crack open some champagne if one of the seeds sprouts... ![]() OMG!!! ![]() : ) |

You know what Tom...I think you're right.
![]() The sponges do get a little green algae growth on them I think. Likely from the water & light combo. I notice though that even when you buy venus flytraps at the nursery, they always have a green film over the soil. It's because things are always so constantly moist I guess and mossy green stuff forms. Hopefully it won't hurt but it can be removed if necessary. You likely thought you were going color blind...or that I was!!! ![]() : ) |

I distressed that my pepper and spearmint seeds have yet to sprout after a week. Maybe I'll start some more. I really need to get a proper set up for sprouting. I just use those cardboard pots with some starter soil. No dome to keep insects out and humidity in. Also the basement where I am sprouting is only around mid to high 60s right now.

This time of year Tom, covers aren't really necessary. What's more important is that you have a good sterile and well-draining medium to germinate your seeds in.
![]() March is the natural indoor seed sprouting time and they'll pop now, like no other time of year...without a cover. A week is not really that long, especially for some pepper seeds. Keep the soil misted until you see sprouts. ![]() Good luck, Tom. : ) |

I went to the store to pick up some soda. I ended up getting another pineapple. This time I'm going to root it out of soil so I can watch the roots. I also picked up some more pepper seeds just in case the current ones don't sprout.

Re: Insomnia Thread...
Soda...too funny!
Bob always makes fun of me because us Canadians call it "pop". ![]() So you picked up some more pepper seeds Tom...which kind? I love pepper seeds...and I've got them sprouting in every window. Just keep the pots someplace warm and they'll sprout for ya Tom. They can be slow, so just be patient and don't worry. ![]() Misting the soil with a mist bottle will help the seeds sprout quicker. Just keep the soil moist, but not soggy. I sowed some Chamomile seeds today, so I can make tea from the dried flowers. ![]() I was checking through my seed collection and seeing what else to sow today! I'm actually getting more seeds soon that I ordered so I'll have more to share shortly. Good Lord, when does the seed insanity end! ![]() I have an abundance of Pepper Joe's Alma Paprika seeds right now and am looking forward to a seed popping soon. It should be a great variety. I understand the fruits are sweet with a hint of heat. I like trying all the different kinds. : ) |
