I've never examined the geology of Upper Klamath Lake, but the current terrain and the past vulcanism are suspicious. However, there are relics in the Great Basin and regions to the south, left over from an epoch of much wetter climate.

Actually, the April Fool comes from a Medieval festival where the village fool was elected king for a day. Traditionally it was held somewhere in the month of April (depending on weather in the specific villages where it was celebrated), but it got formalized around the time of Queen Elizabeth I.

After reading this I was thinking "Poor Pete" and especially as he's down in La., then tonight we get a freeze forecast too! Guess who was out in the dark covering everything back up.

We have frost these last few nights. Temps now are 36* & this will be the high today!!! I'M SICK OF THIS CRAP!
Wow John, that's quite extreme temps! O M'gosh, my neighbors tree just fell over in his yard! Must be from the winds & that I think it was dead.

Paula, I'd wait till later in the month. I'm in north Jersey and plan on moving my plants to a cheap plastic greenhouse that I can heat overnight if necessary maybe next weekend. Then depending on weather in the ground beginning of May. If you're in south Jersey you can push that up a bit.
Oh and can I borrow your kids beggining of May! |

Paula, as already expressed, I would wait until at least the end of the month. When I lived in NY we used Mothers Day as the unofficial start of the planting season.

I finally have something worth adding to this thread. It has been raining for the last few hours. The thunderstorms are subsiding but this is our DRY time of season. This rain is very welcome, and tomorrows low is predicted to be 67F, with a high of 83F with lower humidity after frontal passage. ![]() Today the front was predicted to break up as it usually does this time of year and give us no rain. The meteorologists were wrong Thank God!!! ![]() |

We have some freaking high winds again. It's like clockwork. Whenever my Belle puts out a huge new leaf, the winds kick up and promptly tear the crap out of it. ^$#&@$^@#^^^!@
