do you really want to test the hardiness and strength of a basjoo? plant it in the yard and have a tornado pass about 10 miles from your house. talk about hold your breath! the leaves held up very well being the winds were (here in sparta) about 45-50 mls an hour. the 2 basjoos were planted in the yard wednesday, so my concern was GREAT! so the basjoo has my vote.

It's raining, it's pouring, it's 8 degrees C and I'm freeezing...
Wow, Ms. Kitty. Hearing that makes me glad that tornadoes don't happen down here. I have earthquake-resistant nanners, though! |

It's nearing 0C here again... But we had a nice week with 10C! I really can't wait to start my garden!!!! I'll probably have to wait few more weeks... I hope everybody has nice temps for spring!!!!
I think we should definitely control test what conditions the basjoo can hold up to It's probably be able to resist everything! Maybe even beavers ![]()

Glad they came through ok mskitty - strong wind is always a worry - especially when they get big.

the mom basjoos came through it great, however upon greater inspection i found that 2 of my pups snapped off just at the bottom of the green p-stem. hopefully they will come back. i was very worried since they had only been in the ground a few days. big sigh!

Finally a bit of summer. It was +13*C yesterday and it stayed above +5*C last night. The forecast is for 23*C today.
That should get rid of the last of the snow.![]() I am pretty sure that we will get spring next. But who knows. Allen

Nice and cool here today 81f/27c and the wind that has shredded my taller nanas is less too. Luckily the palm hedges and tall gingers give some wind protection but it has been so dry! Last year by now we had 40 inches of rain and this year only 24.2 inches. Had to water yesterday and as the water pressure was low, that meant moving the hoses a gazillion times.
Visitors and kitesurfers love this weather though so at least someone is happy! Cassie |

We had a very warm weekend with temperatures in the high 80's and low 90's (32 C). People came out in droves to shop at the nursery.

the first week of may. last year at the end of april we had a freak freeze and i had to cut 150-200 buds off my iris. i cussed bad words for every mushy bloom i cut. i have a few buds on my iris now but not as many as last year. so hopefully this will be the last and i can uncover my nanas and other plants for good.

The forecasted high temperature for today was 83 F, but it hit 90 F (32 C). Tomorrow is supposed to have a high of 70 F -- we'll see what happens. The sprouts on my Mohawk Pecan are burnt toast.

As for me, I haven't started my garden yet, there's still some snow out there!!! Still, it's nice to hear from people with Southern climates... although I feel like crying sometimes! T.T
