Sounds like we do the same thing you do with sugar apple, eat it out of hand, avoid the skin and seeds. Delicious, very sweet, juicy white flesh.

it's too bad we can't grow true cherimoyas in fl due to the humidity. the closest we get is the dream cherimoya which is really an atemoya.

I've been doing a little "indoor gardening" during the winter (brought most of these plants inside back in September), and this our harvest.......
Varigate Kumquat, growing in our covered but unheated garden (to protect from the damp) Babaco Papaya - picture taken a couple of weeks ago....we ate it this morning ![]() Mango....it'll be awhile before this one is ready though..... FYI, this tree is only about 2.5ft tall |

![]() As for these two, I got the papaya during a local annual exotic plant sale in May of 2013 when if was only about 30" and now it is about 5'; FYI, this is the same plant I was looking for help with last winter when it lost ALL its leaves....but it made a great comeback this past spring and only has 1 fruit left to ripen; we've eaten the other 9.... I also got the mango during the plant sale in May of 2014; it appears to be graphed but I was still shocked to see it flower during the summer and then produce fruit! - especially considering its height. Both these plants (as well as other exotics) spend the summer and early fall in a double-walled poly carb greenhouse before coming into the house, and I guess they really like these conditions because this is the result..... ![]() |

Thanks Richard. How do the seeds sprout when the parents are in close proximity, if the parents are sterile? I always though babaco was the mountain papaya, but now I learn that they are a different species. Is there anymore information you can provide me, it would be much appreciated. Also if any one knows any sources of this plant in Canada please let us know, I've looked for this one for a while, but people around here just generally have no idea what im talking about.

The parents I was referring to are individuals of Vasconcellea cundinamarcensis (syn. Carica pubescens), and Vasconcellea stipulata (syn. Carica stipulata).
